British SUP Race Circuit GBSUP is set to introduce an exciting new addition to its 2025 National Series: the Starboard Airline Cup. Following a successful trial at the end of the 2024 season, this new competition—made possible through GBSUP’s partnership with Starboard SUP UK—aims to provide a dynamic and competitive platform for paddlers using Starboard’s Airline inflatable race boards.
The Airline Cup will be integrated within the iSUP category, fostering a vibrant and inclusive racing environment. Paddlers will have the opportunity to test their skills against fellow competitors using Starboard’s highly regarded Airline models, the All Star and Sprint. With Starboard’s backing, the event is expected to be a popular and valuable addition to the series, further strengthening the UK’s SUP racing scene.
Starboard UK: A Legacy of Supporting SUP Racing
As one of the world’s leading SUP brands, Starboard has long been at the forefront of stand-up paddleboard innovation. Paul Simmons, Starboard UK’s Brand Manager, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“As the UK distributor for Starboard, we’ve been deeply involved in the SUP racing community since its inception, supporting both events and athletes. Over the years, we’ve seen thousands of paddlers—from complete novices to world champions—develop their skills and passion for the sport. SUP racing in the UK is thriving, with event participation at an all-time high. That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with GBSUP for the 2025 season, bringing accessible, high-quality racing to paddlers nationwide.”
The 2025 GBSUP National Series will feature an expanded calendar, reaching more locations across the UK than ever before. Starboard plans to be present at most of the series’ events, offering paddlers the chance to demo equipment and receive expert advice from their team.
The Airline Cup: A Game-Changer for Inflatable Racing
Inflatable race boards have become a staple at SUP competitions, with Starboard’s All Star and Sprint Airline models being among the most widely used. Recognizing this trend, the Airline Cup has been designed to offer paddlers a dedicated ranking system alongside the main GBSUP distance race results. Competitors riding Starboard Airline boards (up to 14ft) will not only race against the entire field but also have a separate leaderboard within the Airline Cup category.
Starboard will be awarding prizes to the top three male and female competitors using Airline boards, ensuring that inflatable paddlers get the recognition they deserve. For example, a paddler finishing first in the GBSUP 14ft inflatable division will also take the top spot in the Airline Cup rankings—a unique opportunity to celebrate the performance of inflatable SUP athletes.
With this latest development, GBSUP and Starboard are reinforcing their commitment to the growth of SUP racing in the UK. The Airline Cup promises to bring an extra layer of competition and excitement to the national circuit, inspiring more paddlers to push their limits on the water.
Starboard has shown us over the years that new launches usually come with a clear shift in direction. This time, the hints were subtle but noticeable – a hybrid dugout outline appearing in early previews, a few prototype shots circulating, and one question quietly surfacing among paddlers: are we done with blue? The sneak peeks […]

As with any realm in life, we don’t arrive untouched. Stepping into sport is no different: we carry our stories, our motivations, our ambitions, and sometimes the things we hope to leave behind. The paths that lead us into sport may differ, but they share a common thread: finding a safe space and the opportunity […]
Whoever has attempted the transition from recreational SUP to racing has faced their own set of reservations, I know I had plenty, with simply showing up at the start line being my biggest. Therefore there’s something truly inspiring about paddlers who just go for it: showing up, competing and paddling their hearts out, turning the […]
At just 25, Swansea paddler Joey Jones has carved out one of the fastest progressions in the UK SUP racing scene. Training largely on his own, Joey went all-in on the GBSUP National Paddle Racing Series – using it as both a springboard and a learning curve – and through consistency he’s turned that commitment […]
We just caught up with Linus Karlsson at Planet Baltic SUP Race in Poland (7-9 August), 11-time Swedish National SUP Champion and Starboard Team Rider, who recently returned to the race circuit while balancing a busy professional life. That meant less racing this season, and Linus was refreshingly open about the challenges of limited training […]
For Francisco Miguel Carvalho (aka The Man), 46, former Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete turned SUP racer from Windsor, stand-up paddleboarding is more than a sport – it’s a lifeline.
