Starboardhas officially announced the latest addition to its elite Dream Team – one of the most highly anticipated pieces of news in the SUP racing world each season – and this year the spotlight falls on Brazil’s Guilherme Dos Reis.
Fresh off claiming the Pan American SUP Championship title, Guilherme joins the Starboard Dream Team at another defining moment in his career.
The 27-year-old athlete from Caraguatatuba, São Paulo, first made national headlines when he became Brazil’s youngest SUP National Champion at just 17 years old – a title he has since gone on to win multiple times.
Originally coming from a windsurfing background, Guilherme discovered stand-up paddleboarding in 2012 and quickly developed a deep connection with both the sport and its competitive side. Over the years, he has established himself as one of Brazil’s most respected paddlers, recognised not only for his performances on the water, but also for his consistency, professionalism, and long-term dedication to SUP racing.
Hi Gui, welcome back to TotalSUP! You’ve just been officially signed by Starboard SUP – and people are loving those early photos of you already riding their boards. What does this moment mean to you personally?
This is a very special moment in my career as a professional SUP athlete. Having a brand as big as Starboard believing in my potential means a lot to me, especially because it is a brand that many athletes dream of representing one day. I’m very grateful to be living this moment.
Looking back at those early days as a kid paddling on a Starboard board, did you ever imagine it would come full circle like this?
Yes, I did imagine this, because it has always been one of my goals since I was a kid. But during the pandemic I stopped competing for around three years and ended up missing that opportunity at the time.
Today, it came back in another phase of my life, where I feel more prepared, both as an athlete and as a person, to live this experience. So I believe everything happened the way it was supposed to happen.
You’re coming into this partnership after an incredible start to the season with the Pan American SUP Championship title. How much confidence has that result given you for the rest of the year?
I’m very happy with my result at the PASA Pan American Championship. It is a very important title for me and it gives me even more confidence to keep working hard. I have very big goals in the sport, and winning this title is part of the process of getting where I want to be.
Winning the Pan American title is a huge milestone. What do you feel clicked for you physically and mentally at the start of this season?
It was definitely a very important title. I think things started to come together at the beginning of this season because I’m trying to do everything the right way, both professionally and personally.
I truly believe every detail affects the final result. When you do things with dedication, respect, and discipline, good things eventually come back to you as well.

Starboard has such a strong legacy in the sport. What made joining the team the right fit for you at this stage of your career?
Because I believe this is the right moment for us to move forward together, chasing the same goals. Starboard has a very strong legacy in the sport, and for me it is an honour to be part of it.
How important is it for young paddlers in Brazil and beyond to see athletes progressing from local races all the way to global brands and international titles?
I think it is very important because it shows young athletes that it is possible to get there. No matter where you started, with hard work, discipline, and dedication, dreams can become reality.
What’s changed most in your training, mindset, or approach over the past 12 months?
I think both have changed a lot, but especially my mindset. Today I feel more mature, more focused, and with a better understanding of everything that is necessary to keep improving in the sport.
What goals are driving you now for the rest of the 2026 season?
I have very big goals for this season, but for now I prefer to keep them private. What I can say is that I’m very motivated and working hard every single day to keep improving and to represent my country, my sponsors, and everyone who supports me in the best way possible.
