The Lignano SUP Race will be once again bringing one of Europe’s most iconic stand up paddling events to the Adriatic coast. What began more than a decade ago as a grassroots race organised by a passionate local crew quickly grew into the continent’s largest SUP gathering, with previous editions welcoming over 300 athletes from around the world.
For 2026, the event reaches a new milestone as both the Technical Race and the Long Race become official stops on the International Canoe Federation (ICF) SUP World Ranking Circuit, attracting elite athletes competing for valuable ranking points. Alongside these premier races, the Fun Race and the Big SUP Race offer accessible, amateur-friendly competitions, giving paddlers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to experience the excitement of racing in Lignano.
Lignano Pineta is one of the three main areas of the seaside resort of Lignano Sabbiadoro, located on the Adriatic coast of Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is distinguished by its unique spiral-shaped urban layout, designed by architect Marcello D’Olivo in the 1950s, which blends harmoniously with the lush pine forest surrounding it.
This area is renowned for its wide golden sandy beaches, numerous well-equipped beach resorts, and a lively center with bars, shops, and restaurants. Lignano Pineta offers an elegant and relaxing atmosphere, ideal for families, sports enthusiasts, and nature lovers, thanks to its parks, cycling paths, and sports facilities.
The 2026 race programme features events for paddlers of all ages and skill levels. The 500 m Technical Race includes categories for Junior, Open, 40+, 50+, and 60+ competitors, while the 12 km Long Distance Race is open to Junior, Open, 40+, 50+, and 60+ divisions.
For those looking for a more accessible challenge, the 2 km Fun Race is open to all participants in a single overall category. The programme also includes the exciting 2 km Big SUP Race, a team event where crews of six paddlers compete together on a Big SUP board.
