Your 2024 season has had fewer races compared to the last two years. How has this season compared with previous ones in terms of competition level, training intensity, and focus on key events?

I really enjoy training, and I love competing in high-level races. These are the two things I’ve focused on this season, and I’ve won all the key races I set my sights on: EuroTour Barcelona, the Spanish Championships, and the ISA World Championship.

I am very happy training at home in Fuerteventura, and above all, I’m trying to achieve a higher rate of improvement in my performance. This is something that motivates me every day. That said, there haven’t been any major changes in my training or approach. Oscar and I (ORtraining), follow a consistent plan while incorporating new advancements each year. It’s all about commitment and passion.

You’ve added another ISA World title to your collection and won the Long Distance title with Team Spain. Would you say these victories are the highlights of your season so far, or have there been other memorable achievements that stand out?

Yes, a world gold medal is the ultimate achievement for an athlete. However, I would also say that the EuroTour Barcelona race was one of the highest-level events this year, and I’m very proud of my result there.

At the beginning of the year, my main goal was to be consistent across all disciplines and conditions without specializing in any particular one.

When it comes to your Starboard equipment, what specific gear and dimensions (paddle and board) are your favorites for the various racing disciplines, and what makes these your go-to choices for peak performance?

If I had an odometer on my All Star, I think I could have circled the globe with it!

The 2021 All Star 14×22.5 is my “magic board” because I’ve used it in all types of conditions with incredible performance: open water, beach races, downwind, flatwater—you name it.

Currently, I’m combining the 2024 All Star 14×21.5 (for open water, technical races, and sprints) and the 2024 Sprint 14×21.5 (for long distances in flatwater). These perfectly complement my racing style.

As for paddles, the Lima M gives me the power I need at key moments in a race.

Looking ahead to 2025, is there any particular gear or innovation from Starboard that you’re excited about?

Starboard is always at the forefront of innovation in SUP—whether it’s race boards, foils, or inflatables. I’m sure they’ll surprise us with something new and exciting in 2025. (ed. Sneak peek at the 2025 Starboard range)

In a few days, you’ll be defending titles in both the Technical Race and Long Distance categories. How are you approaching this last major competition of the year?

I’m approaching it as just another race to close the season. The results from the ICF SUP World Championshionship in Thailand last year don’t weigh on me or create pressure, if that’s what you mean. I feel confident in the preparation that has brought me to this point. I’ve enjoyed this last month of training like never before, and I’m excited to compete with the best in the world.

Given your extensive international experience and multiple world titles, how do you manage the mental and physical demands of racing back-to-back events? Are there specific techniques or routines that help keep you at the top of your game?

I’m a pretty calm person, and I like routines. Wherever I travel, I try to turn the location into a “home”. I make sure to scout the area a few days beforehand, acclimate myself, and even cook the same meals I would at home. This helps me stay mentally prepared.

The competition field continues to grow in talent and diversity. How do you see the level of female competition evolving, and do you find it inspiring to see so many young and/or new athletes pushing the boundaries of the sport?

The sport of Stand-Up Paddle is fueled by new athletes who keep the fire alive. In recent years, the level of female competitors has risen significantly, and for me, this is pure motivation.
