Noic Garioud, le nouveau champion de France de SUP 14′ – on pourrait même dire de Downwind – a encore frappé fort et en plus maintenant il a un surnom. A 15 ans, le désormais dénommé “Chicken” sur le circuit international vient de se classer 1er dans la catégorie SUP 14 de la course appelée “The Doctor” à Perth en Australie, mais encore plus fort, dans le top 5 au scratch et donc devant un paquet de riders australiens en Unlimited / 18 pieds….
Plus de 400 compétiteurs se sont alignés pour cette course mythique alliant Surf ski, Stand Up et prone. Des conditions très musclées avec un vent établi à 25 noeuds avec des rafales à 30, plus la houle du large, ce qui a donné une mer démontée ! Donc des vagues énormes et donc des conditions en théorie idéales pour les amoureux du downwind. “En théorie”, parce que l’orientation du vent n’était pas dans l’axe. Ce qui a rendu cette course extrêmement difficile. Il a fallu ramer 90% à gauche et surfer les monstres de travers pour remonter au vent afin de ne pas manquer les portes et garder le cap.

Dans ces conditions autant vous dire qu’on ne voit rien de précis avant d’être assez proche ce qui met une tension supplémentaire.
Noic Garioud avec sa planche fétiche Sunova de 14’/24″ et sa pagaie 425Pro a réalisé donc un exploit avec une planche sans aileron orientable, qui facilitait très largement la direction pour la remontée au vent pour les riders qui en possédaient une. Il marque ainsi une nouvelle fois les esprits du monde du SUP et est très attendu pour la prochaine course qui a lieu le week-end prochain la King of the Cut.
