THE ALBATROS

Ludovic Dulou is an authentic French waterman whose rhythm of life is tied to the rhythm of the ocean.

A good swimmer and water polo player, Ludovic became a lifeguard at the beginning of the ’90s and spent hours training to save lives,  observing the changing tides, and becoming familiar with the treacherous Aquitaine coast wave patterns in the South West of France.

A paddleboard world champion, the first man to have ever surfed a tidal bore on SUP foil, the record holder and winner of the Quicksilver Paddleboard Race (the longest Paddleboard race in the world – 65km), lifeguard, bodysurfer, big wave surfer and Ultra Long Distance SUP and hydrofoil racer, Ludovic, who has been living in Bidart for several years, has embodied the very archetype of a waterman for the past 20 years.

At now 48 years old (almost 49 because he was born on March 20), Ludovic has devoted his life to learning about the ocean, board sports and endurance.

THE OCEAN AS A MEANING OF LIFE

From his childhood in South Gironde, punctuated by hunting and fishing parties, this peasant grandson has kept a visceral attachment to the culture of his region named Landes de Gascogne. “Ludo” is a local child. A sensitive man with natural charisma and resilience that command the most respect and admiration; and whose delicate outlook on life does not leave you indifferent. Water to heal wounds, water as an outlet, water as a means of expression when the words don’t come out.

If some people see him as a “strange bird”, Ludo has always remained faithful to his values.

After living a very painful chapter in his life, the man started body and soul in his passion for the ocean, always pushing his limits further, compensating for his suffering with inhuman efforts.

Over time, he has continued to move forward, writing his own story, building the life he had always dreamed of.

Ludovic Dulou’s sporting philosophy is that of adventure, in its purest design. It is through and for her that he claims his free spirit, his taste for discovery, his need to explore and to explode the codes.

It is also while traveling for a year in Polynesia that he realized that the surf culture extends well beyond its practice and represents a lot
more.

“This is how the peoples of the sea teach the younger generations to become autonomous: by progressive and playful immersion in the sea currents, the area of impact and ocean movements. I owe my love at first sight with bodysurfing and spearfishing from my Polynesian heritage. All that
subsequently nourished my oceanic passions finds its source in this natural and instinctive communion with the marine element.”
