Dave Boehne and his Speedfreak squad at Infinity SUP are always ready to race and they now have a new board that, from the name alone, is ready to go. Soon to be seen on a start line near you here is the TotalSUP guide to the brand new EVERREADY race SUP
Arthur Arutkin on the new EVERREADY
Hi Dave, welcome back to TotalSUP with your new race SUP, the EVERREADY.Â
Thanks, Chris, good to be here again and I am very excited to talk about the new EVERREADY!Â
Don’t let me stop you – what can you tell us???
The term “Ever ready” is often used to describe a reliable and long-lasting source of power, indicating that a system will consistently deliver the energy needed for its intended use. It can also be used more broadly to describe something or someone that is constantly dependable, resilient, or enduring. And that is what this is, the next evolution in race board design from me is.Â
The EVERREADY is an entirely new design from the ground up, taking what we already know and piecing together our favourite elements of board design where everything from outline, rocker, bottom contour and aesthetics all work in harmony.Â
That is a bold statement about a board from the brand that brought us the Blackfish and Whiplash! If you haven’t yet seen it here is Dave’s video walkthrough of the EVERREADY at Infinity HQ in Dana PointÂ
Great video introduction to the board, Dave. In the video you say this is the new all-around distance board, let’s talk about that
That’s right, the EVERREADY is our all-around “distance” board. It’s an all-around shape which for Infinity traditionally has always been a hybrid between a flat water glide type board and a bump-riding rough water board. This board in particular is a very deep dugout design, with a flat bottom. There is a new arrangement in the rocker line from what I’ve done in the past.Â
The concept with the team was to create a stable board that you can ride as narrow as possible and not fatigue the legs while keeping it efficient and easy on the shoulders so you stay strong till the finish. The higher volume and taller rails in the smaller sizes in particular are designed for competition and paddlers chasing the podium. Narrow, fast, and stable.Â
And we made sure that it can sprint off the line and turn with the best of them. All round!Â
Caption this – Dave and Arthur developing the new EVERREADY
Sounds like the perfect mix for a distance board, something that can handle everything. How much work is involved in creating a new shape, from the idea to production boards?Â
Good question, it’s a lot of work. We have a great team here and some of the best riders in the world and we were all heavily involved with the process. Arthur Arutkin, Itzel Delgado, Candice Appleby, Juliette DuHaime and Ricardo Rossi were instrumental in the development of this new shape.
I lost count of the number of design and brainstorming meet-ups, zoom calls and testing sessions we had and then the 8 prototypes we made, making sure it was perfect. It was by far the longest prototyping process we’ve ever had at Infinity. Â
We looked at literally every inch of the board many times. The new outline is subtle but has specific apex points in the “shoulders” and the “hips” which cater to both stability and sprint/cruise speeds. The new bottom shape provides the glide efficiency we wanted while maintaining a “playful” character when you paddle it.Â
Dave with the final 5 prototypes
That is one of the things I really like about my Blackfish, it is so playful! It encourages speed but also puts a smile on my face and inspires confidence in waves or at buoys
Exactly! The Blackfish is a very easy board to just jump on and get used to it quickly and do very technical style paddling on. There is a fine line between having a board that is stable and fast in a straight line but can also become too tracky and unforgiving when ultimately you need an all-round shape to be playful and feel like an extension of your feet so you can attack changing conditions at a moments notice like you often encounter in a distance race.
Board testing with Infinity SUP
So the EVERREADY is not the new Blackfish or an evolution of the Blackfish Dugout but an entirely new board in the Infinity race SUP range.
Yes, this is an entirely new board completely different from our other boards so it never made sense to call it a Blackfish.Â
And because EVERREADY is a dugout option only it also doesn’t make sense to keep the Blackfish dugout. There are many “dugout” designs out there including the Blackfish that simply are not “dugout” enough to fully take advantage of what a dugout provides. We felt the Blackfish dugout version was dipping our toes in a sense and the EVERREADY is all in. This board simply does certain things better.
Blackfish’s legacy lies in the flat deck and has been an influential design for many years. Now that “flat deck” is a buzzword again it’s a good feeling knowing the influence is greater than ever. We have an updated design for this for early 2025 release but we can chat again soon about this Chris!
Looking forward to hearing about the updated Blackfish! Where does the EVERREADY sit in the Infinity SUP range?Â
Our race SUPs line up like this;
WHIPLASH – Hollow Carbon flat water speciality board
BLACKFISH – EPS Carbon flat deck all water / tech race board / sprint board
You can see Blackfish and EVERREADY naturally can be used for many of the same conditions with the preference of a flat deck vs a dugout.
Arthur Arutkin with the EVERREADY Prototypes
And I think we’ve already seen the EVERREADY in action?
That’s right, Arthur Arutkin raced this board to 2nd Place in the Downwind Race in the Gorge Paddle Champs as well as 2nd Place again the next day in a completely different style race in the tech course showing the wide range of conditions this board can excel in and this was only version 1.
Sounds like you’ve found a new sweet spot with board design, when can paddlers get their hands on your new creation?
This board will be available worldwide in Spring 2024 in one construction, our super nice Team Elite Carbon Construction which is an EPS core and a fully wrapped carbon fibre moulded construction. It is very light and Very strong.

Thanks, Dave! I know that Infinity SUP Nordic just down the road from me has two EVERREADY boards on order so hopefully I’ll be able to get one wet in the Spring, then I can check out the performance and take a close look at the tri-plane hull which looks great.
