Un-official reports of a decision with SUP racing has been made by Fernando Aguerre and Robert Fasulo ISA President ISA Executive Director
Announcement of board size category for the ISA Worlds in Brazil:
Following our December survey of the duration of SUP Racing Boards at the ISA World Championships (WSUPPC), we analyzed the responses and discussed with several stakeholders, including athletes, manufacturers and event organizers.
The results of the survey indicate that members are divided (even internally) in their positions with 14 of those who responded in favor of 12â6 âand 15 in favor of 14 âand even some of those who provide arguments for and against both options.
After a deeper analysis, while it seems that the trend among elite manufacturers and athletes is heading towards the 14 â, many ISA members from Latin America, Asia and Europe have again indicated a preference for 12â6 â. The ease of transport, accessibility and accessibility are some of the main arguments in favor of 12â6âł, although the reality of transport problems may be negligible.
We have also engaged our partners in the World Tour of the Association of Paddlesurf Professionals (APP). After consulting the athletes, the APP found a similar divided opinion and, as a result, are likely to move forward with a hybrid solution with women preferring 12â6 âand male runners using up to 14 They will make their announcement shortly.
The ISA Executive Committee has understood that there is a consensus to allow competitors to use SUP cards up to 14 â; However, in order to give athletes and teams from all over the world the time to make this transition to the longest distance, the EC decided that a policy of using boards up to 14 âat ISUP WSUPPC will not take effect until 1 January 2019.
The maximum card length permitted for WSUPPC 2018 in Brazil will therefore remain at 12â6 â.In the meantime, we have encouraged the APP circuit to make its own reasoned decision, in agreement with its athletes, on the length of the board allowed during ISA sanctioned World Tour events, and if they decide to allow boards of directors up to 14 â, the ISA will fully support their position.
We look forward to continuing to advance the sport of SUP among our nations and remain available to you if you have further questions.
