The Danish Surfing Federation has just released the following announcement :
“The strong fleet of the best European SUP athletes will be battling for European Championship titles in 2022 in the North Sea as Denmark will host the 2022 ESF EUROSUP. The small fishing town of Hvide Sande will be the heart of the event.
Hvide Sande is known for its versatile conditions to do watersports and has for years been the center of a popular water sports festival named WATERZ. With the roaring North Sea on the west coast and a spectacular fjord, Ringkøbing Fjord, on the east side of the town it is the perfect spot for organizing the European SUP Championship.
France was crowned European champion and Martin Vitry won 3 gold medals at the last EuroSUP 2019 in Sardegna, Italy.
The acting president of the European Surfing Federation (ESF) Jean Luc Arassus says:
“The European Surfing Federation would like to thank the Danish Surfing Federation for organizing the 4th European SUP Championship, 27th of August – 3rd of September 2022. This competition allows us to look forward to 2022, after the last two very difficult years that we have gone through together. The organization of the ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championship in 2017 in Copenhagen was a global success and important in the recognition of SUP within our community. The experience and skills of the organizers will ensure a high-level event, in race, and in waves. The conditions at this time will allow the national team to express their highest level of performance, and to plan for a second half of 2022 that will be very consistent.
European Surf Federation president, Jean-Luc Arassus
Jean Luc Arassus continues:
“In the hope that 2022 will bring us many opportunities to meet again, the ESF Board of Directors wishes everybody a very good end of the year, cautious and committed to fight against this coronavirus.”
Also, the president of the Danish Surfing & Rating Federation (DSRF), Jakob Færch, is excited to bring the European Championship on Danish waters:
“We are really looking forward to creating an incredible event for some of the world’s best SUP athletes, spectators, volunteers and partners. In 2017, we made history by organizing a very successful ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championship which to date remains the biggest ISA Worlds ever with 42 participating countries. With EUROSUP 2022 we will have a similar goal and organize the largest EUROSUP in terms of participation. At the same time, we will create activities for all recreational SUP practitioners and celebrate the huge SUP community that exists in Denmark and Europe”
The 2022 European SUP Championship will be held from the 27th of August to the 3rd of September 2022 and is a joint venture between the DSRF and the local organizers from WATERZ. The head of the WATERZ organization, Katrine Kock Frandsen, is thrilled about Hvide Sande becoming the center of attention from the SUP community for 8 days during the late summer. The annual water sports festival gathers the watersport community from all over Scandinavia.
“We are super excited, and we are looking so much forward to welcome all athletes, spectators, volunteers and partners to Hvide Sande in Denmark. To merge the European SUP Championship and the activities we have in the WATERZ festival is a dream coming true. “
The EURO SUP 2022 will feature categories for men, women and for the first time ever also junior categories for boys and girls. They will be battling for titles in the following divisions: SUP Surf, SUP Race Sprint, SUP Race Technical, SUP Race Long Distance and SUP Team Relay.
The ESF EUROSUP 2022 is a major international sport event, and this is reflected by having the official Danish event organisation, Sport Event Denmark, entered as a partner on the event. Sport Event Denmark is playing a major role in financially making this event happen. The organization is set out to help attract major international sport events with noticeable impact on especially international branding of the Danish sport community in Denmark, an increased turnover in tourism, local commitment, and development of sport in Denmark.
” Stand up paddle sport has attracted a lot of new active people and has shown a high popularity within a short period of time. The timing with Hvide Sande being the host city of the EUROSUP 2022 is perfect. This event can also be a step on the way, for Denmark to host future major SUP Championships in a few years, says Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark
Spain will host the next EUROSUP 2026, the European Stand Up Paddle Championship for national teams organized by the European Surfing Federation (ESF). The competition will bring together national teams from across Europe and will take place in two locations that will host the different disciplines of the championship.
