The 10th edition of the Open Water Challenge which will take place from September 20th to 22nd in Torregrande (Oristano), on the Italian island of Sardinia, will host a regional stage of the continental circuit that gathers some of Europe’s largest Stand Up Paddle Racing competitions.
It became clear that the 10th edition of the Open Water Challenge was destined to become an international event ever since the announcement of it hosting the Formula Kite European Championship. And now Torregrande and Oristano double it with the introduction of the Sinis SUP Marathon as one of the Euro Tour stages! A great novelty that makes the OWC all the more the flagship event in the calendar of Oristano European City of Sport 2019.
The Sinis SUP Marathon is a 14 km Long Distance race along the ancient settlement of Tharros, a natural amphitheatre overlooking the sea and delimited by the isthmus of Capo San Marco. It is now an archaeological site.
History, tradition, quality of organization and a truly amazing location, is to be expected by the SUP racers who will take part in this special edition.
It is not the first time that this long distance stands out internationally. Last year Torregrande was chosen as the host venue of the EuroSup, the European Championship of Stand Up Paddle Racing and SUP surfing, with the participation of some of the strongest European pro riders.
And this year they will return, even more combative, hunting for useful points towards the Euro Tour Ranking.
Registration to the competition is already possible by filling out the form available at this link:
As already announced, the Sinis SUP Marathon will fall inside the OWC SUP Festival, a festival within the festival! Three days dedicated to the world of Stand Up Paddle with side activities, music and entertainment. All framed in a festive atmosphere and the unfailing Sardinian tradition. There will also be interesting SUP Clinics with professional athletes, it will be possible to test the equipment of leading brands of Stand Up Paddle and enjoy a historical and one-of-a- kind event.
Competition wise, the Sinis SUP Marathon will not be the only one. On schedule for Saturday 21st a Sprint Race and above all an unprecedented Chrono Team Race open to Pro Riders and amateurs, with a new race format, exciting and engaging. Sunday 22nd it will be the turn of the Long Distance and of a shorter race of 8 km departing from Tharros, open to everybody, adults and kids, with boards of any type, material and length. That will represent the final act of the OWC SUP Festival with one motto only: sure fun.
