Antonio Morillo, one of NSP’s top international riders, continues to make waves in the SUP world. Originally from Caños de Meca, Spain, he started with SUP surfing before transitioning to racing at the age of 15. Since joining NSP in 2020, he has been competing at the highest level all over the world.
A few weeks ago, he delivered a sensational performance at the India Paddle Festival, winning the 10 km Long Distance race in just under 45 minutes – an impressive time for open-water conditions. With NSP’s cutting-edge equipment, he dominated the competition.

Congratulations on winning the overall competition at the India Paddle Festival! You dominated the Long Distance race, completing the 10 km course in just 44 minutes and 53 seconds. How did you prepare for this race, and what were the biggest challenges?
Thank you! We didn’t specifically prepare for this race, as we are still working on reaching our first peak form of the season. My coach, Óscar Ruiz, and I used this race as a test to see if we were on the right track with our training. The biggest challenge was adapting to the different race conditions, but I felt strong throughout. Thanks to NSP’s high-quality equipment, I was able to handle all conditions efficiently.

You won the race using NSP equipment. Which board and paddle did you use, and why did you choose this setup?
I used the NSP Ninja 20 and the NSP Speedster Paddle 81. Getting equipment in India was difficult, but thanks to the NSP team and NSP Indian riders, we managed to have everything we needed. The NSP Ninja gives me incredible stability, which is key in open sea conditions. It surfs through all kinds of waves, and the new tail design makes turning so much easier. Even in the flat-water sections, I felt fast and efficient, which is exactly why I trust NSP’s technology.

The India Paddle Festival is known for its diverse race conditions. How did you experience the conditions on-site, and did you have a specific strategy for the race?
The Long Distance race in India is one of the most complete races I’ve ever done. There’s always wind, there are waves at the start, and then sections of flat water – so you need to be ready for everything. I focused on staying stable, adjusting my technique with each section, and using my NSP board’s versatility to my advantage. That’s what makes NSP race boards stand out – they perform in all conditions.

You are an emerging athlete in the international SUP scene. What are your goals for the upcoming season, and which races are next on your schedule?
My goal is always to have fun and achieve the best results possible. Just like in previous years, I am training hard to perform at my best. This season, I will be competing at the ICF event in Comacchio, Battle of Hercules, Triple S in Melilla, Santi Petri, World SUP Festival, and Barcelona. With NSP supporting my journey, I feel confident heading into all these races.

Many young athletes look up to you. What advice would you give them to improve in competitive racing and reach the highest level?
Years ago, I looked up to the athletes I now race against. My advice? With effort, sacrifice, and the right equipment, anyone can reach their goals. The key is to enjoy the process and improve step by step. Having a strong sponsor like NSP behind you – also makes a huge difference.

How important is the team behind you, including NSP, your coaches, and your family? How do they support you on your journey?
Having a strong team is essential. My coach Óscar Ruiz, the OR Training team, and the entire NSP family have been with me for five years now, and I consider them a part of my life. NSP has been a key supporter of my career, providing me with the best equipment to compete at the highest level. And, of course, my family – my parents, sisters, and extended relatives – have always supported me and shaped me into the person I am today.
What was your personal favorite moment at the India Paddle Festival? Is there anything that will stay in your memory forever?
There were so many amazing moments, but if I had to choose one, it would be the crowd at the beach during the sprint semi-finals and finals. The energy was incredible, and having so many spectators cheering made it a truly magical experience. Racing with my NSP board in front of such a passionate audience was unforgettable.
