The APP World Tour’s Busan SUP Open is set to make a thrilling return for its 3rd edition in 2024, with Gwangalli Beach serving as the breathtaking backdrop. The event will take place this weekend, featuring Sprint Racing on Saturday, October 5th, followed by Distance Racing on Sunday, October 6th. Not only will the world’s top athletes be competing, but the event also welcomes participants of all skill levels—from beginners to those eyeing a future in the professional ranks. A standout feature of this year’s event is the flourishing U14 division, which continues to grow thanks to the dedication of the APP’s Korean partners, KAPP, in promoting the sport locally. The sight of young competitors taking to the start line in Busan is a powerful indicator of the sport’s expansion in Korea.
Although there will be no international live broadcast for this year’s event, live updates, race highlights, and special features will be readily available on the APP World Tour, KAPP and TotalSUP Facebook and Instagram pages. Audiences can also expect athlete spotlights and post-competition coverage, ensuring fans can stay closely connected to the action.
Some of the biggest names in the sport are expected to make their mark in Busan. Japan’s Flying Fish rider Shuri Araki, France’s Infinity SUP racer Arthur Arutkin, Denmark’s NSP superstar Christian Andersen, as well as Spain’s Starboard racer Fernando Serra—the reigning champion—will be joined by rising stars such as Spain’s Duna Gordillo and Laura Quetglas, along with Korea’s Ji Won Choi and Su Jeong Lim. A host of emerging Japanese talent will also add to the excitement, setting the stage for an unforgettable weekend of competition.
Beyond the racing, the Busan SUP Open offers a lively festival atmosphere, curated by KAPP, which celebrates the sport and the lifestyle that surrounds it. The weekend’s programming will include music performances, parties, and introductory SUP clinics, all contributing to the event’s dynamic appeal. With activities for all ages and skill levels, Busan continues to establish itself as a key destination for stand-up paddling in Korea.
While the APP has seen a quieter year in 2024, the Busan SUP Open stands out as a signature event, following an exhibition race earlier this year in Mangalore, India. Looking ahead, the APP World Tour is poised for an exciting 2025 season, with events planned at iconic locations around the globe. The final schedule is set to be announced by the end of October, with Busan serving as a key moment in the lead-up to what promises to be an exciting new era for the Tour.
