Whilst we are waiting for the Red Bull heavy water to begin, have a look at the Gran Canaria Pro-Am! Registration is now open for the second stop of the 2018 APP World Surfing Tour. The event is to be held on the stunning north shore of Gran Canaria, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, this second surfing event will deliver a spectacular next chapter for the Tour in 2018, with a pumping right hand point break to contrast the predemoninantly left hand beach break conditions we saw in Long Beach NY.
The Gran Canaria Pro-Am will be the final stop of the Surfing Tour for 2018, as Sunset Beach will return as the Opener for 2019, so the World Champions will be crowned in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in December to wrap up the 2018 season for the APP World Tour.
As with all APP Surfing stops, there will be an open trials event and a focus on the youth in the competition so to provide opportunities for all. This will then culminate in the prestigious main event, where the best athletes in the world battling it out for the World Championship Title.
The APP commented “We are excited to confirm that we will be heading out to the beautiful City of Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria from the 11th – 20th December for a prestigious surfing stop on the 2018 APP World Tour. After 2 years of development towards this moment, we are excited to be embarking on a multi-year legacy in Las Palmas”.
Las Palmas is the bustling capital city of Gran Canaria with around 400,000 residents and boasting some of the very best surf on the island, with multiple points providing great conditions for a World Championship Stand Up Paddlesurfing event. The caliber of the surf, coupled with the ideal environment for hosting an event of this kind, with its beautiful and central Playa de las Canteras providing an unparalleled beach lifestyle experience, making the Las Palmas stop on the APP World Tour an event not to be missed.
This event will be held from the 11th – 20th December, directly following on from the Paris stop on the Tour. Three categories will be featured:
Pro Level SUP Surfing
Open Level SUP Surfing
