Following the resounding success of Peniche’s hosting in 2017 and last year’s event in Hvide Sande, Denmark, this year’s championship is gearing up to be bigger and more captivating than ever. With over 20 nations expected to participate, this eagerly anticipated event nestled in Portugal’s wave capital promises to be a thrilling showcase of elite SUP surfing and SUP Racing talent from across Europe.

ABOUT PENICHE

Venturing beyond the town, the nearby Berlengas Archipelago, a stunning nature reserve, awaits exploration. Crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs, and diverse marine life make it an ideal spot for snorkeling, diving, or simply enjoying the tranquility of untouched nature.

The archipelago is situated 5.7 miles off the mainland, in a region characterised by two important geomorphological structures Cabo Carvoeiro and the Nazare Canyon. These two formations have a significant influence on the physical environment and ecological features of the region, since they interact with the circulation associated with coastal upwelling to intensify primary production in the ecosystem.
EVENT HEADQUARTERS
The event headquarters will be at the Peniche High Performance Sports Center (CAR). The High Performance Sports Centre in Peniche is dedicated to the training and technical improvement of High-Performance athletes and teams of surfing other nautical sport disciplines, triathlon, and several other sports.
This centre, in addition to the excellent technical capacity and equipment, also has the capacity to accommodate 30 people, between athletes and technicians, thus ensuring that athletes have a truly immersive and worry-free experience other than training in exclusive.
The High Performance Sports Centre in Peniche is a part of the Portuguese Network of High Performance Sports Centres/HIGHSPORTUGAL and it is linked to the unique natural conditions for the practice of this kind of sports.

TRANSPORT
If possible, we recommend that you go by car to Peniche as the car will also be of good use in the event area. The closest Airport is Lisbon Airport.
To reach Peniche from Lisbon, you can opt for either a bus or a car. The bus journey takes around 1,5 hours, with several departures from Sete Rios bus station. If you prefer the flexibility of driving, take the A8 highway, and you’ll arrive in approximately 50m to 1 hour, depending on traffic. Itâs very easy to rent a car at the airport.
You can also fly to Porto Airport. From Porto, the journey to Peniche by car typically takes around 2.5 hours via the A1 and A8 highways. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Porto’s Campo 24 de Agosto bus station, which takes around 4 to 5 hours.

– SUP Sprint, SUP Technical Race and SUP Team Relay will take place at the Praia de Molhe Leste, depending on wind and the swell conditions, we have different spots that we can use.
– SUP Long Distance is planned to be a crossing between Berlenga Island and Praia do Molhe Leste.
– SUP Surfing will be on the beach with the best conditions.

Water temperature around 18°C
Average air temperature during the day is 20°. During the day it can be up to between 20-25°. During the night around 15°. The weather can change rapidly so remember to bring warm clothing and a rain jacket.
Wind speed: average between 5-25 knots.
Waves: Peniche is the European Wave Capital, known for great surf conditions. Itâs a peninsula, as long as thereâs swell, we will always have offshore winds.
