The countdown is on to the next exciting SUP racing event, Agios Nikolaos on SUP 2022, held on the 24 and 25 September in Crete. In its 7th edition, this year’s event is dedicated to Thanos Karaiskos, the father of SUP in Crete, a pioneer, who had contributed significantly to the development of the sport in Greece.

As confirmed by Mikhalis Farsaris, Head Organiser of Agios Nikolaos on SUP, “The Sprint Finals for men and women will be held in front of this audience, at night with lights, giant led screen, live TV and more!”

At the peak of the SUP racing season, TotalSUP caught up with SUNOVA Riders and the French SUP powerhouse Amandine Chazot and Boris Jinvresse for their insight on this premium SUP racing event.
Hi Amandine and Boris, massive congratulations on your SUP racing season!
Thank you, the 2022 season is going really well so far. Amandine is in the French National Team and just came back from the European SUP Championships in Denmark with a Silver medal in the Long distance and two Gold medals (Team and Relay). We have also just completed the 2022 ICF SUP World Championships in Gdynia with Amandine winning Bronze in the Women’s Sprint Final!

Competing at Agios Nikolaos on SUP… What’s unique about this event?
Agios Nikolaos on SUP 2022, is definitely one of our favourite SUP racing competitions of the year. We love everything there. The country, the people, the staff and of course, the race itself. The start is on flat water and then you start feeling the bumps building up under your board.
Few minutes into the race you are riding perfect downwind conditions all the way to the canal and the iconic bridge. Then, it’s the choppy water section and donwinding again all the way to the finish with a flat water sprint in the middle of the city. And of course, all of that is under the Greek Sun.
We’re lucky to have the best gear for this race. We collaborated on the design of the SUNOVA Allwater boards specifically for that. They’re fast on flat water, amazing in downwind and stable on the choppy water.
We are using the Blackfish Paddles AC213 fin, developed by the brand in collaboration with Amandine. We put it in the front of the US box and that really enhances performance. It makes it faster in downwind, it’s amazing! We also use Blackfish paddles which are light with perfect catch and made with bio resin.
Thank you very much for your time and good luck with the event and the rest of the SUP racing season!

As we can’t be everywhere, especially in the world’s far-flung locations, we’re grateful for the stories shared by athletes on the front lines of SUP’s global growth. Over 300 paddlers stood on the start line at the 8th Nanxun Ancient Town SUP Open, reflecting both the scale of the event and the rapid rise of […]
The Fehmarn Belt Crossing marks the first documented attempt to paddle 22 kilometers of open Baltic Sea, cutting across busy shipping routes between Fehmarn (Germany) and Lolland (Denmark) on a stand-up paddleboard. It’s a story of scale and contrast: a lone athlete navigating the same waters as colossal cargo ships, the David vs. Goliath associations […]
