Thanks to a video of the French brand TRIBORD (you can find the URL at the end of the article), we’re going to explain you how to turn with your Stand Up Paddle. There are two famous ways to turn : with your feet (first part of the following video) or with your back foot.
Turning with your feet
If you’re a beginner, it will be easier to turn thanks to the first technique. But once you are all confortable with your Stand Up Paddleboard, you could try the second one which is more effective
The first approach consists in using both of your feet. You turn your Stand-Up Paddleboard keeping your feet in a parallel position, in the center of the board and you must then paddle on the opposite side of the direction you want to go in. (If you want to turn on the left, you need to paddle on the rigth side ; if you want to turn on the rigth then paddle on the left).
Turning with the back foot
If you are a good paddler, you have a great balance or if you just want to improve your Stand Up Paddle skills, this technique will be better for you and more efficient.
To use this technique, you just have to move your back foot backwards. To know which one you need to use, try with your two feet and you will soon find out ! (You can also do this technique with each foot to be even more effective). Then paddle immediately on the opposite side of the direction you want to go, as for the first methode.
Now, let’s do it ! Putting the theory into practice !
