It was one of those perfect latre Spring afternoons on Lac de Soustons, our home spot here at TotalSUP in the South West of France. Sunny skies, no wind, and a 9-year-old full of energy. Time to test gear! I had just received the inflatable all-round board Niphean 10’6″ (pronounced “NIGH-fee-en”) and with my son in tow, we decided to give it a real-world spin, father-son style. The unboxing happened right there on the grass by the lake — no need to carry it in the backpack this time. And first impressions? Solid. Everything you need is packed in: paddle, leash, fins, pump, kayak seat, and — nice touch — a waterproof phone pouch that actually works! You don’t always get one of those in a SUP package, and it ended up being surprisingly useful.

The anti-slip deck pad was soft and grippy, giving us confidence whether standing, kneeling, or just lounging. We didn’t pack extra gear this time, but it’s clear you could easily bring along shoes, snacks, water bottles, or even a small dog. With 11 D-rings and dual bungee cords, the storage options are there when you need them.
The StabilTrac Fin and triple-fin system gave us straight tracking and a really relaxed cruising feel. It’s not a speed machine, but that’s not the point — this board is about fun, comfort, and versatility.
One of the coolest features? The kayak seat. It clips onto the D-rings in seconds, and the included paddle converts into a double-blade kayak-style paddle. We both tried it and loved the change of position. It’s a great way to relax your legs, explore hands-free with your drink in the bungee, or just give your kid a new role as captain.
The adjustable paddle is a leisure model — floaty, light, and beginner-friendly. If you’re going for distance or training, you’ll eventually want to upgrade, but for casual paddling, it’s spot on. The portable backpack is functional, not flashy, but it’ll carry the full kit. Same for the leash, repair kit, and high-efficiency manual pump — all good enough to get you on the water safely.
