SUP adventure, simplified: Niphean’s mission backed by a growing ambassador community

You’ve probably stumbled across the unboxing videos of pastel, candy-floss-toned Niphean inflatable SUP boards – paddlers gliding everywhere from crystal-clear Florida Springs to windswept UK shores. And you’ve definitely 😉 seen Mr TotalSUP testing one with his son, or Jersey Shore ripper Steve Houser carving it up.

Founded by three friends – a paddleboard athlete, a boat designer and an inflatable paddleboard engineer – Niphean blends their expertise into gear that’s both functional and stylish. That commitment has led to innovations like the signature StabilTrac Fin technology and design excellence recognised with the Muse 2025 Product Design Award.

Built largely on Amazon, where it boasts a 4.5/5-star rating across thousands of reviews, Niphean has also expanded through its DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) shop and a growing ambassador community raving about the boards’ easy setup and standout design. To dig deeper, we caught up with Mia Xue, Niphean’s Marketing Manager, for an inside look at the brand’s operations, ambassador engagement, and the vision behind Niphean’s mission: making outdoor sports simple, stylish, and accessible.

Hello Mia, welcome to TotalSUP! Can you please tell us who you are, your background and role at Niphean?

Hi, I’m Mia, the Marketing Manager at Niphean. I lead our brand’s marketing strategy and execution across multiple channels, including influencer collaborations, content marketing, Amazon promotion, DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) growth, and media PR partnerships. I work closely with our product and design teams to ensure our messaging reflects Niphean’s core value: making outdoor sports easy and unique. My focus is on driving brand growth not only in the U.S. market but also across Europe, using creative campaigns and strong partnerships to increase brand visibility and inspire more people to enjoy the outdoors.

The story of Niphean is that of three founders. Can you tell us who they are and how the brand was born?

Niphean was founded by three friends with very different but complementary backgrounds – Jack, a paddleboard athlete; Owen, a boat designer; and Jason, an inflatable paddleboard engineer. We saw that many people give up on outdoor adventures because the gear is too heavy, too complicated, or just intimidating.

Instead of making things more “professional” and complex, we wanted to make outdoor sports effortless and unique for everyone. That’s why we redesign every detail – from boards that fit in your trunk to tents you can set up in two minutes – so anyone can enjoy nature without barriers.

Can you present the range of boards available at Niphean?

Absolutely! At Niphean, we offer a diverse range of inflatable paddle boards tailored for different customer needs and skill levels. Our product line is strategically divided based on the sales channels:

On Amazon B2C (Business to Customer ):

We currently offer three main sizes:

  • 305cm (10′)
  • 320cm (10’6″)
  • 335cm (11′)

These are versatile all-around boards that suit beginners, families, and casual paddlers, focusing on stability and ease of use.

On our DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) website:

We offer three distinct series, each designed with specific users in mind:

  • All-round Series: Ideal for beginners and leisure paddling. These boards strike a balance between stability and maneuverability
  • Touring Series: Designed for intermediate users who want longer paddling sessions or light adventures. They have better tracking and speed while maintaining good balance.
  • Racing Series: Built for performance. These boards are narrower and longer, ideal for experienced paddlers who want speed and responsiveness.

Across all lines, we prioritize premium construction, user-friendly design, and our signature StabilTrac Fin technology, which greatly improves stability – especially for children and beginners.

Who would you say are your target customers?

Our target customers are people who love the outdoors but don’t necessarily see themselves as “hardcore” adventurers. They could be families looking for a weekend escape, solo travellers who want simple, reliable gear, or recreational paddlers who value both performance and convenience.

Many of our customers live in urban or suburban areas and want gear that’s easy to store, transport, and set up without needing extra help. We also see a growing number of women and younger paddlers in our community – people who appreciate designs that are lightweight, safe, and user-friendly.

Ultimately, we aim to serve anyone who believes outdoor sports should be enjoyable and unique, not intimidating or exhausting. Whether it’s paddling on a calm lake, exploring a coastline, or simply spending quality time with friends and family, our gear is made to make that experience effortless.

What would you say sets you apart from the competition in the inflatable SUP market?

A few things really set Niphean apart:

  • Our StabilTrac Fin design, which increases lateral stability and gives new paddlers more confidence.
Functional design + aesthetics: Our boards not only perform well but also feature unique visuals and textures that stand out.

  • We’ve also made setup incredibly quick – with everything packed in a streamlined carry system, you’re ready to hit the water in minutes
  • Finally, our U.S.-based operations help us serve customers quickly and reliably – from delivery to support.

What is your best-selling product and do you know why?

Our best-selling model is the Clovis Series 10’6″ inflatable paddle board. It’s a super stable, beginner-friendly board with a wide platform and generous volume. Many customers love that it comes with a seat attachment for extra versatility – perfect for paddling, relaxing, or even fishing. It’s become a favourite for families and first-timers.

You seem to rely heavily on Amazon for sales but also for storage and logistics. Can you tell us how that works? What % of sales are you doing directly through the website vs Amazon?

Amazon is one of our key sales and logistics partners, not just in the U.S. but also in several international markets, including Germany, Spain, the UK, France, and Italy. We even launched our Amazon Japan store this year. By leveraging Amazon’s fulfillment network in these countries, we can store products closer to our customers, ensuring faster delivery and a consistent service experience.

At the same time, we run our own direct-to-consumer store, where customers can access the full product line and special editions not available on Amazon. While Amazon accounts for the majority of our sales in most regions, our website is growing steadily as more customers seek exclusive products and a closer connection to the brand.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes, we ship to many countries through our own distribution network and Amazon’s fulfillment centers. We currently have inventory in the U.S., several European countries, and Japan, which allows us to deliver quickly in those regions. For other destinations, we can arrange international shipping from the nearest warehouse. Our goal is to make our products accessible to paddlers and outdoor enthusiasts wherever they are.

You also have a team of ambassadors paddling with Niphean. Can you tell us who they are and how to apply if any reader is interested to join your team?

We’re proud to work with a passionate group of ambassadors – paddlers, adventurers, and content creators – who share our love for the water and the outdoors. They help us showcase the versatility of our boards in real-life adventures, from touring and racing to fishing and camping.

Anyone interested in joining can reach out to us through our official website or social media channels. We look for individuals who are not only skilled on the water but also enthusiastic about inspiring others to enjoy outdoor sports in their own unique way.

Thank you for your time Mia!
