Con casi 8000 km de costa, ríos, pantanos, archipiélagos e islas, cualquier rincón en España es apto para practicar SUP. Cada vez son más los niños y las niñas que se animan a probarlo y a competir. Y es que el país posee una de las mayores congregaciones de niños que compiten en SUP Race, en gran parte gracias a la cantera de Mar Balear SUP Center y otras que emergen poco a poco.
Este fin de semana, el pantano de Atazar en la Sierra Norte de Madrid, fue el escenario de uno de los mayores espectáculos con que los riders sénior disfrutamos: ver al futuro (y presente) del SUP compitiendo en un Campeonato de España. Algunos del tamaño de minions, otros ya altos y desarrollados como los personajes de cómics que idolatraban sólo un par de años atrás, todos se reunieron para demostrar, una vez más, que con ellos el futuro de este deporte está asegurado.
Dos días de competición para hacer nuevos amigos, ver a los antiguos, reír, jugar, y finalmente competir. Cada territorio aportó su granito de arena y cada uno de los 40 niños y niñas merece una mención especial. Mar Balear, Barrika Surf Camp, Noja No Limits, Northwind, Kairoscore…
Los benjamines realizaron un circuito que recorrieron en unos meritorios 20 minutos, protagonizando una llegada al sprint que arranco los aplausos de todos los asistentes. Los alevines, infantiles y cadetes hicieron sus respectivas distancias, dejándonos espectaculares imágenes de giros, llegadas, sprints y abrazos.
Los junior, por decisión propia, hicieron el mismo recorrido que la categoría élite, demostrando que están a la altura y dispuestos a dar el salto para comerse a los adultos.
Por desgracia, el domingo tuvo que anularse la carrera técnica del Campeonato de España sub18 que comenzara con la Long Distance del sábado. La seguridad premiaba sobre las fuertes rachas de viento. Aún así, las sonrisas de los más pequeños quedaron grabadas al subirse al podio y recoger sus merecidas medallas.
