Realizou-se no dia 22 de maio, a primeira etapa do Circuito Nacional de SUP Race Técnico na Praia Internacional do Porto e na Praia de Matosinhos, inserida no Log Surf Fest, um evento da Porto & Matosinhos Wave Series 2016.
Com um formato em M, com rondagens em mar e bandeiras em terra, e uma distância de 5,8 km na classe Pro (12’6 e 14’0) e 3,2 km na classe amadora, os atletas encontraram ondas de meio metro e condições com upwind, sidewind e downwind, num exemplo perfeito do que é o beach race.
Na classe 12’6 Pro Masculino o vencedor foi Filipe Meira (44m 35s), seguido de Ruben Afonso (2.º) e Ricardo Rodrigues (3º.).
Na classe 12’6 Pro Feminina a vencedora foi Ângela Fernandes (53m 29s), seguida de Marta As (2ª.) e Anabela Prioste (3.ª).
Na classe 14’0 o vencedor foi Rui Meira (47m 13s), seguido de Rui Pedro Meira (2.º) e Nuno Sousa (3.º).
Na classe Amadora Luís Oliveira (24m 17s) foi o vencedor, seguido de Miguel Maia (2º.) e Diogo Alves (3º.).
Nos Sprints, que este ano não contam para o circuito nacional, os vencedores foram novamente Filipe Meira (12’6 Pro) e Luís Oliveira (Amador).
“Estou muito contente com o primeiro lugar, visto que treinei no inverno todo. É um incentivo psicológico para mim”, afirmou Filipa Meira. “Tivemos aqui condições brutais para a prática do Paddle, sobretudo para Race Técnico. Com umas ondas pequenas que facilitaram a entrada e alguns bons momentos de surf para todos os participantes.”
No dia 21, teve lugar também uma prova de SUP Wave Open, que contou com ondas de meio metro e com vários participantes, que deram um bom espetáculo a quem passava na praia ou tinha um primeiro contacto com a modalidade. O grande vencedor foi o atleta Ângelo Bernardo, de Moledo, que derrotou na final o líder do circuito nacional de SUP Wave, Simão Manuel (2.º), e os locais Alexandre Tavares (3.º) e Nuno Sousa (4.º).
A prova decorreu em paralelo com a segunda etapa do circuito nacional de longboard, com João Dantas a vencer na classe Open e João Gama na Sub-18.
O Log Surf Fest 2016 foi organizado pela Onda Pura Produção de Eventos em colaboração com a Câmara Municipal do Porto e Matosinhos, contando com o apoio institucional da Federação Portuguesa de Surf e da Associação Onda do Norte.
O Junior Cup, prova de eleição do campeão nacional da categoria Júnior de surf é o próximo evento integrado no cartaz Porto & Matosinhos Wave Series 2016 que se realiza nos dias 15 e 16 de outubro.
