The Danish Viking is returning to Paris for the 5th time. Casper Steinfath, recently crowned in Fiji ISA World Champion in Technical SUP Race for the 3rd year in a row, tells us how much he loves the Nautic SUP Paris Crossing why has Paris has been on his SUP calendar since 2011.
Casper, why do you keep coming back to the Nautic Paris SUP Crossing?
Because it is a unique event and without a doubt one of my favorite events of the year! I mean, when else are you going to be allowed and able to paddle through Paris on a SUP with 600 friends? I guess it’s also the perfect place and atmosphere for me to end each season. I first came in 2011 and took part in the 2012, 2014 and 2015 editions after that.
What has been special about each participation?
Each time has been special in its own way! I am really fascinated to see the event grow each year. I think we were just 200 racers the first year and now there will be 600 smiling people on the starline this year. That is crazy and super awesome if you ask me!
What is your take on the the indoor pool racing event?
Personally I have always loved the sprint and demonstration races in the pool!! It is a perfect place to show a cool part of our sport to the public. I like racing long distances especially like in Paris, but I also really love short explosive races with lots of spectators.
Tell us about your special relationship with Paris and France?
Paris has always been very nice to me. I love coming here each year and spending time in the City of Love. No matter how many times I come here, I always love the croissants and enjoy finding new parts of the city to explore. From surfing on the wild coast, skiing in the snowy mountains or paddling through the center of Paris – France has a special place in my heart!
