Coinciding with the Nautic Paris SUP Crossing 2017, which will take place in the French Capital this weekend, another prestigious competitive SUP event will be held on the other side of the world. On the gorgeous Peel Coast near Perth, Western Australia to be exact. The Stand Up Surf Shop King of the Cut 2017 (details here). This year’s competitors include local talent, from Australian national SUP championship winners Michael Booth and Angie Jackson, to Australian SUP surf champion 2017 and The Doctor 2017 title-holder James Casey. We also expect some of our New Caledonian friends, such as last year’s winner Titouan Puyo, to be in attendance.
Reflex Films Australia put together some awesome footage of the 2016 edition and spoke to some of the 140 participants, from Unlimited Class Winner Sam Parker to former overall winner and 2016 bronze medallist Matt Nottage, who was keen to comment on Puyo’s impressive agility. The downwind conditions on the Peel Coast were utterly perfect in 2016, and organisers this year are hoping for the same. As Nottage himself put it, “definitely some of the best downwind conditions in the world”.
Promising stuff so! Check out the video above to see for yourself.
