Tested. Trialled. Ready: BassSUP expands its range with the Trinity 13’8″ x 35″ SUP-Kayak board

Following the announcement of its European expansion and the successful rollout of its boards into Decathlon stores across the Baltic region, BassSUP – the premium Polish watersports brand founded in 2016 as an inflatable SUP specialist – has expanded its range with the launch of the Bass Trinity 13’8″ x 35″ x 6″ SUP-Kayak board, designed to redefine family paddling.

To learn more about the inspiration behind the Trinity, we caught up with Małgorzata Majda, who oversees BassSUP’s inflatable board division, to discuss how the concept evolved from its initial idea to the finished product and what this latest launch reveals about the future direction of the brand.

Combining the stability of a large touring SUP with the versatility of a kayak configuration, the Trinity lives up to its name with three zones, three roles, and three ways to enjoy a single board. Designed as a genuine 3-in-1 platform, it comfortably accommodates two adults and a small passenger – whether that’s a child or even a dog – making it one of the most versatile inflatable boards BassSUP has produced to date.

We also spoke to paddlers with a range of experience to get their perspective on this exciting new addition: Anna Sokolenko, Natalia Grędziszewska and Irek Owczarski.

Bass Trinity is a completely new model in the BassSUP family. Where did the idea for creating a 3-in-1 board come from, and what was missing from the market before?

The idea was born from our own experience. We’ve been paddleboarding with our dog for years, and we know first-hand that a standard SUP board doesn’t provide a small passenger with their own safe, dedicated space. Most of the time, it meant one person paddled with the dog while the other used a separate board. But we wanted to paddle together.

That’s when we started wondering if it was possible to create a single board that could comfortably carry two adults and one small passenger. Only later did we realise that families with young children were looking for exactly the same kind of solution.

That’s how Trinity was created – a board with three functional zones, space for three passengers, and the flexibility to be used as either a SUP or a kayak, whether solo, as a pair, or in a 2+1 configuration. From the very beginning, our priority was simple: everyone on board should have their own place and feel safe.

The name Trinity is no coincidence – three zones, three roles, and three ways to use a single board. What was the journey from the initial idea to the final design?

From the very beginning, we knew the problem we wanted to solve – we just didn’t yet know what the perfect solution would look like. The design evolved step by step. We experimented with different dimensions, tested the ideal size of the dedicated space for the smallest passenger, refined the softness of the cushion, selected the right EVA foam, and optimised the overall deck layout.

We also paid close attention to the details. Every element of Trinity has a purpose. Our goal was to create a board where each passenger has their own dedicated space, making every outing on the water feel comfortable, intuitive, and enjoyable – whether paddling standing up or sitting down.

Who is Trinity designed for? Was it created primarily as a family board, a touring board, or in response to the growing interest in multi-person SUPs?

To me, Trinity is one of the first truly family-friendly SUP boards – a board where everyone has their own place. A bit like at home, where everyone has their own room. The paddler has plenty of space to move freely, the accompanying adult stays close to the smallest passenger, and the child or dog has a dedicated, secure area of their own.

At the same time, we made sure Trinity is a fully capable touring board. It’s comfortable on longer adventures, features a removable rear cargo area, and includes thoughtful design elements that never get in the way as you move around the deck.

That’s the idea that sets Trinity apart from conventional multi-person SUP boards.

The Bass Trinity 13’8” x 35” x 6” combines the functionality of a SUP and a kayak. How did you achieve the right balance between comfortable stand-up paddling and an enjoyable kayaking experience?

We never set out to make a compromise. From day one, Trinity was designed to perform equally well as both a SUP and a kayak.

Its comfort in stand-up mode comes from the right proportions: a length of 13’8″, a width of 35″, an ultra-rigid Hot Fusion Woven Dropstitch Double Wall construction, and a carefully planned three-zone deck layout. The main paddler stands at the rear, with plenty of room for unrestricted paddle strokes and precise manoeuvring, while the other passengers are positioned so they never get in the way.

We gave just as much thought to the kayak configuration. An ergonomic seat with a high backrest and a lightweight, adjustable carbon paddle with a variable feather angle are only part of the solution. We also designed the front seating area so the seated paddler can comfortably brace their feet in a recessed footwell while keeping their knees slightly bent. This more natural paddling position reduces strain on the lower back, making even long days on the water noticeably more comfortable.

That was our goal from the very beginning: to create a board that feels genuinely comfortable to use, whether you’re paddling standing up or enjoying the water in kayak mode.

Trinity is the second launch in BassSUP‘s anniversary collection. What does this model say about the direction in which the brand is evolving?

Trinity reflects the direction we’re taking with the BassSUP brand. We’re not afraid to challenge convention or explore new ideas if we believe they solve real problems for real people. We listen to our customers, and our goal is to create equipment that offers more than just a fresh design – it delivers genuine innovation and a better experience on the water.

We design our boards for people, but only if they’re boards we’d genuinely enjoy using ourselves. That’s our benchmark for quality.

We also love surprising our customers. More and more often we hear people say, “I wonder what BASS will come up with this year?” For us, that’s both a huge compliment and a powerful motivation to keep innovating. Every new product is another step forward in our mission to create equipment that makes time on the water more comfortable, safer, and even more enjoyable to share with family and friends.

Where can people test the Trinity?

This season, we’re continuing the BassSUP Demo Tour, where you’ll have the opportunity to test Trinity on the water. Our next stops include the Planet Baltic SUP Race in Kołobrzeg and SUP Masa Krytyczna at Lake Żywieckie. Trinity will also be available to test at our base in Sieraków and through selected BASS brand ambassadors.

You have extensive experience on the water and have paddled many different boards. The new Trinity from BassSUP  is primarily associated with being a family board, but do you also see potential in it for more experienced paddlers? What might convince them to choose it?

Not every paddle is about speed. It’s not always about competition or chasing new records. Sometimes the greatest value comes from simply slowing down, taking a moment, and enjoying being on the water. And that is exactly what Trinity was created for.

I think many people may see it primarily as a family board, but I see much greater potential in it. Even the most experienced paddlers sometimes need a chance to breathe – training is important, but recovery and connecting with nature are just as valuable. It’s a board that allows you to truly slow down, clear your mind, and enjoy the moment.

I believe every paddler – regardless of their level of experience – will find something to appreciate in Trinity. Because SUP is not only about sport and performance. It is also a way to find balance, recharge your energy, and remind yourself why you fell in love with being on the water in the first place.

More and more people want to share their water adventures with their four-legged companions. Do you think Trinity is a board that opens up new possibilities for paddlers who enjoy going out on the water with their dogs? What features of this model make you feel confident and comfortable during shared sessions?

Taking my dog out on the water feels completely natural to me. I always dreamed of having a four-legged companion who could be part of my active lifestyle. I want him to be included in my adventures, rather than simply waiting at home for the next walk.

My dog is quite cautious and unsure in new situations, which is why his reaction was the best test of this board for me. On Trinity, he quickly became comfortable – he had no problem moving from the bow to the stern, changing positions, and at no point did he show any signs of stress or uncertainty. That says a lot about the stability of this design.

I also felt very confident from the very first time I stepped onto the board. Even when my dog was moving around, the board barely tilted from side to side. Its buoyancy and width provide a truly high level of comfort, which is essential when paddling with an extra passenger. I can’t imagine constantly having to balance and fight to stay upright – on Trinity, that simply isn’t an issue.

What surprised me even more was the combination of stability and manoeuvrability. Although Trinity feels like you’re standing on a really large and secure platform, it remains very light and easy to handle. You don’t need to use much force to manoeuvre it smoothly and paddle exactly where you want to go.

That versatility is, for me, its greatest advantage. Trinity is perfect for family adventures, sharing the water with children or a dog, but it works just as well for relaxed solo cruising. At a time when we often buy separate equipment for every activity, it’s great to have one board that can meet so many different needs. It truly is a board the whole family can enjoy – regardless of age, experience level, or plans for the day.

You had the opportunity to test the BASS Trinity in a unique setup – with your partner and two dogs, Gacek and Ruby. How did the board perform with such a family crew, and what surprised you the most while out on the water?

paddled solo with Gacek and Ruby, we went out with Dawid, and we also all shared one board together (2+2).

What surprised us the most was the stability of this board. With two dogs on board, we initially wondered whether everyone would have enough space and whether it would feel comfortable, but it quickly became clear that Trinity provides plenty of room and a real sense of security.

With both dogs on the board, we felt completely confident, and most importantly, Gacek and Ruby had their own space and could comfortably be part of our water adventures.

For us, as people who always want to take our dogs with us, the most important thing was that they also felt comfortable on the water. Gacek and Ruby immediately took to the board – they happily stepped on board and moved around freely, while we could simply enjoy our time together without constantly worrying about whether we had enough space.

Trinity was designed as a 2+1 board, but your test showed even greater possibilities. How did the comfort, stability, and space on deck hold up with several people and two four-legged passengers on the water?

Here, Trinity really surprised us in the best possible way. In the two-person, two-dog configuration, we still had plenty of space, and everyone could comfortably find their own spot, whether sitting or standing.

The board is wide and extremely stable.

When paddling with dogs, stability is absolutely essential for us—the dog can move around freely, change position, or jump into the water (and, with our help, could easily get back onto the board from the water). That’s why having a wide and stable platform provides much greater comfort and peace of mind.

Another really interesting feature is the front zone with the cushion and viewing window, which creates additional space for a dog or child and makes shared time on the water even more enjoyable.

There was so much room that I could even lie down on the deck together with Gacek and Ruby.

We also really like the fact that Trinity can be used in two ways – as a SUP and as a kayak. This means everyone can choose the style of paddling that suits them best.

After this experience, who would you recommend Trinity to? Is it primarily a family board, or more of a versatile platform for anyone who wants to share water adventures with their loved ones (and their pets)?

In our opinion, Trinity is a board for people who want to share their water adventures with someone close – family, a partner, or their dogs

Of course, it works brilliantly as a family board, but our test showed that it has much greater potential. For dog owners, it’s a really great solution because it allows you to bring your four-legged companion along and create memories together.

After our tests, we can honestly say it was the perfect choice for us. Its stability, generous amount of space, and the option to switch into kayak mode make it an extremely versatile piece of equipment.

If someone is thinking about getting a SUP and wants not only to paddle solo but also share this activity with loved ones or their pets, this is exactly the kind of board they’re looking for.

Can the Trinity successfully serve as a larger touring board, suitable for both relaxed outings and longer-distance adventures?

Trinity is a solid board designed for paddling with multiple people. The most extreme adventure on calm water is taking three adults out together. The standing paddler definitely has a challenge, as they are moving more than 200 kg, but maintaining a steady speed of 3 km/h is still achievable. This level of load, combined with complete stability, is possible thanks to the board’s considerable length and increased width of around 90 cm.

When paddled solo, Trinity holds its course well even for a less experienced paddler. Firstly, because it is long; secondly, because it has parallel rails. You can move around the board, walking from front to back, without worrying about stability while finding the optimal position.

Flat-water paddling requires a certain amount of effort from the SUP rider at the start, which is why Trinity is especially well suited to longer distances – you can load it with gear for several days and travel along rivers. The current helps maintain an efficient pace, and larger rivers such as the Vistula or the Oder are a natural environment for Trinity, allowing distances of up to 40 km per day.

Paddling solo with a dog or a child weighing up to 20 kg makes virtually no difference – you can paddle as if you were alone.

Is Trinity a good choice as a single board for the whole family – providing enjoyment for adults and children alike, while also being a great introduction to the world of SUP?

We were looking for one solid and versatile board that would allow the whole family to start their SUP adventure. Trinity turned out to be the perfect choice. From the very first time on the water, each of us was able to find our balance with ease, making learning quick and enjoyable. The board proved itself not only during relaxed recreational trips but also as a great addition to our morning workouts, adding an extra dose of cardio.

However, the most joy came from the child who joined us – Trinity became a platform for jumping and water games, while the built-in viewing window allowed them to admire the underwater world without ever having to leave the board.
