Does the name Seychelle really need an introduction? Maybe not in the SUP world, but we’ll give you one anyways! Seychelle is a phenomenal athlete, mom, coach, and SUP world champion! Seychelle is also the founder of the SUP Stroke School, an 8 week stroke technique online coaching program and the creator of her very own SUP training app. She is excited to announce another 8 week session of SUP Stroke School starting in August. Inside the program, paddlers from all over the world work closely with Seychelle to improve their stroke technique, gain confidence and strength, learn how to paddle faster, and most importantly pain-free. With a focus on community the paddlers join in weekly coaching calls, receive video analyses and daily and weekly training plans for paddle and strength. The program aims to break the isolation often felt in the sport while empowering participants to overcome performance plateaus and achieve their paddling goals. We took a moment with Seychelle to talk about the program, what paddlers need to know, and why they should consider signing up!
Hi Seychelle, welcome to TotalSUP! When did you first launch SUP Stroke school?
Hi Maddi! Thanks so much! In March of 2023 I hosted the first session of SUP Stroke School. In September of that year I re-launched and moved everything on to the Seychelle SUP app.
That’s great! Can you tell us more about what exactly is SUP Stroke School?
SUP Stroke School is an 8 week online coaching program that I’ve created to help paddlers to paddle, faster, longer, and most importantly pain free! I’ve taken my professional SUP racing and coaching experience over the past ten years to create a program that focuses on helping other paddlers improve their stroke technique, while also building strength. Once a week there is a Live group coaching call to go over any and all paddling and training questions, share video analysis, and reflect on stroke technique together. The program also includes access to over 32 weeks of training programs for paddle and strength as well as full access to the Seychelle SUP app which includes all three of my SUP Drill and Skill Video Series, and video recording of all calls, program notes and strength sessions. There is also a community membership platform to share all of our experiences.
Wow! That is amazing! What do you hope to achieve since SUP Stroke School’s first launch?
I want to grow a community of like-minded individuals from all over the world coming together to improve not only their stroke technique, but all aspects of their paddling. We share a common goal of becoming a better version of ourselves through our love and pursuit of this sport. I want to elevate this sport and its participants of all levels and disciplines. Many of the folks inside my programs are SUP instructors themselves. I know the work I am doing inside SUP Stroke School is helping so many more than just the folks who sign up for the program.
Can you tell us a little but more about who is SUP Stroke School for?
SUP Stroke school is for all those who love to paddle and want to progress in the sport, whether for competition or for recreation. It is for paddlers who want to improve their paddle skills and stroke technique, to improve their paddling efficiency, speed, and stamina, who want to learn how to use proper body mechanics for generating power and injury prevention. It is for paddlers who want to modify their stroke for past injuries and maintain longevity in this sport. SUP Stroke school is for paddlers who are hitting a plateau in their performance and are not sure how to move past it. It is for folks who are short on time and looking for the most effective way to make progress. It is for paddlers who are feeling stuck with their stroke technique and skills progress, or who are experiencing pain during or after a paddle.
What are some benefits paddlers could expect when they join SUP Stroke School?
Being a part of a program like this gives you confidence, motivation, and a means to make improvements with every single session. It gives you direction and focus especially when you are short on time. In SUP Stroke School paddlers can truly expect to begin paddling faster, longer, and pain-free.
Incredible!! What is the feedback you’ve received from those who have been in SUP Stroke school for a while now?
The feedback I’ve received from the SUP Stroke School ‘Team” as I call them, because again, it’s about building community inside this program, has been incredible! Here are a few examples from paddlers who are inside:
I just really feel like your stroke analysis and your explanation of technique make the most sense to me. I am an experienced SUP paddler and I felt like I’d reached a plateau in my paddling and I think no matter how good a seminar is or how good a paddler you are, to make real progress, you need regular video analysis and feedback. One of the things I’ve loved from working with you is just how down to earth you are, how fabulously open you are. You actually sitting down and seeing you analyzing your own videos with us. It’s like, WOW. I’ll just say that It’s not your board. It’s not your paddle. It’s your technique. Rather than buy a new board or a new paddle, invest the money in coaching. Invest the money in SUP Stroke School. – Darren P.
I struggled with my stroke technique. I was always using my arms. I tried and tried and I just couldn’t fix it. So I wanted to try something different to help me get through that seemingly impenetrable barrier. My technique has improved phenomenally and has progressed to an entirely brand new technique and my paddling has gotten faster as a result. What I liked most about the program is that each week you give me no more than 2 to 3 things that I can go away and focus on. Learning a new technique can be quite overwhelming at the beginning and so just having a couple of things to work on was ideal. I’d absolutely recommend the SUP STROKE SCHOOL. In terms of value for money and the product that you offer, the video content was superb, the attention to detail was exceptional. Exceptionally worthwhile. – Tony F.
I felt I had reached a certain level as a paddler and plateaued and I was getting a little bit frustrated. So I did the 8 week course with Seychelle. She provided really great coaching. She’s fantastic at finding the nuances changes I needed to make to my stroke and explaining in ways that I can understand on how to improve on those things. My results were great. I’m much faster. I’m quicker getting up to speed. My endurance is better. The drills are great. Overall I couldn’t be happier with my experience. If you’re concerned about the price, How much are you spending on board? How much are you spending on paddles? How much are you spending on travel to go to places? The program is very reasonable for what you get because I have not purchased a piece of equipment that has made as big of a difference as the course did for me. My stroke is more efficient and powerful now. I now know how to ramp up my training as I get closer to competition. I’m more stable on my board. My speed is about .75 to 1 mph faster than before! – Ben B.
Seychelle has the perfect ability to take my negative thoughts and turn them into a positive opportunity. With the group I appreciate seeing that we have similar struggles, yet all made positive strides in our goals. I have gained confidence in my ability and I have improved physically as things that previously would ache or twinge no longer do so regardless of paddle duration. – Bobbi M.
My biggest challenge was getting enough time out on the water on my board. I don’t live close to water, so getting myself organized and coordinated around my schedule and my kids schedule caused me stress and struggle to feel like I was actually getting the time in that I should be. I have never been able to get in more than 1 -2 paddles a week. I have realized over the course of the program that I just need to know that I am making improvement, growing more confident, and that each time I get on the water is progress toward better paddling.I also have been able to get more consistent in my paddling – less arms, more full body, that has allowed me to improve my speed, endurance, and comfort out on my board. I am most proud of my ability to paddle longer distances – and enjoy it…I don’t feel too tired, too sore. Seychelle has been very supportive and creative in helping find ways to get practice with my skills and drills. Her approach to meeting us each where we are in our paddle journey has been very helpful – especially because we all had different skill levels and experiences. I enjoyed the group sharing and support – it was nice to see encouragement from the others when I didn’t feel like I was making progress. I also liked that we could push each other by posting what our progress was. – Holly C.
At first I hesitated with starting the program due to commitments, daily life events that kept me from the water, getting out on those windy days, however I was able to integrate the material in such a way that it was enjoyable and not just another time commitment on the “to-do” list. Seychelle’s drills videos were very informative. Her professionalism with calls, and follow ups, and not whip cracking. It was nice to hear where everyone else was within the group, their wins along with their challenges. I learned to take in little bites at a time. We are all at different levels, no need to rush. There is no test at the end as to whether you passed or not, we all succeeded and built from the foundation that was set. – Julie D.
