Cecilia Pampinella Once Again on the Water Festival Start line

Eyes on  Mondello Beach, the stunning Sicilian backdrop for stop #3 of the official Italian FISSW SUP circuit. More than just a race, this iconic event blends competition, community, and lifestyle ,drawing paddlers from across Europe to experience the energy of the sea in all its forms.

We caught up with Cecilia Pampinella ahead of the race to talk about her journey so far, her thoughts on the growth of SUP in Italy.  At just 18, Cecilia is already a multiple-time world champion and one of Italy’s brightest young talents in stand-up paddle. Known for her strong mindset and impressive consistency, she’s part of a powerful new generation of athletes reshaping the future of the sport.

Hello Cecilia, can we officially count you in for Water Festival 2025 , stop #3 of the Italian FISSW circuit?

Yes, I’ll be competing at Water Festival 2025. I’ve already participated in many past editions and was always satisfied with the experience.
My goal this year is definitely to race well, but most important, to have fun.

Looking back at last year’s Water Festival, what made the experience special for you as a competitor?

Surely, the wonderful setting made everything even more beautiful. What I really appreciated was the organization, it felt like a true event, not just a SUP competition.
The music created a welcoming and inviting atmosphere, especially for people walking along the beach. All races include music, and it definitely made a difference.

You’re entering the elite category this year for the first time  how does that feel?

Honestly, I didn’t pay too much attention to the category change, because since I was little, I’ve always raced against senior athletes as well as juniors.
It’s definitely demanding, but I’m training a lot and I hope this season will be a great one.

You’ve already achieved multiple world titles at a young age. What has your journey in stand-up paddle taught you so far?

Winning world titles isn’t just about the title itself,  it’s about all the work behind it.
There are so many things people don’t see before you reach that podium: the sacrifices, the hard choices.
It wasn’t easy to give up going out with friends during my teenage years, but I know it paid off.
I believe sport is a foundation for life. It teaches you to respect others, to be determined, and to stay focused on your goals.

For young paddlers who look up to you, what advice would you give, especially to those dreaming of racing at elite level someday?

My advice to young athletes who follow me is to train consistently, stay determined, and never lose sight of your goals.
I’ve always had a strong mindset very organized and goal-oriented  so it’s been natural for me to live my life this way.
