SIC Phenomenon Laura Paricio Ignites the 2025 SUP Season

Laura Paricio has had a fantastic start to the 2025 racing season! With already multiple podium finishes on the Euro Tour this year, the SIC youth development athlete is showing no signs of slowing down! The 18 year old Spanish athlete is excited and determined to continue her winning streak for the rest of the 2025 season. We caught up with Laura today to talk about all things paddling, racing, and what her plans are for the rest of the year!

Hi Laura! Welcome to TotalSUP! We’re so excited to catch up with you today! You have had an incredible start to your 2025 racing season, congratulations! What inspired you to join the SIC Maui SUP Team for 2025?

Since I started in the SUP world, I always dreamed of being part of a team like SIC Maui. I had been eyeing their boards for a while and was really looking forward to training with them. It motivates me to know I’m paddling with a board like the RST, known for its rigidity, lightness, and durability. I’m very happy to be part of the Spanish national team of SIC Maui, and grateful that the brand believes in me, even though I’m a young athlete just beginning to compete at a higher level. That pushes me to keep working with more discipline and excitement every day in my last year as a junior.

I think we can definitely understand why SIC believes in you – because you are awesome! How do you see yourself contributing to the SIC team’s overall success this year?

Although I’m new to the international circuit and still young, I believe I can bring a lot through my attitude. I’m very disciplined, committed, and eager to learn. I’m extremely motivated and feel like I’m living a dream. Beyond results in competitions, I want to contribute my passion for the sport to the team. I feel like I’ve proven in 2025 that I’m working hard and making daily efforts.

Your attitude inspires others! What are your personal goals for the 2025 SUP season?

My main goal is to grow as an athlete. This year I want to gain experience in the international circuit, learn from every race, and adapt to different types of conditions and settings. I also want to improve my times and technique, race more confidently, and achieve my best in distance, technical, and sprint races. Besides the results, I want to enjoy the process and strengthen my mindset as an athlete. Right now, I’m very happy with my season so far, especially after winning the 2025 Spanish Long Distance Championship in the U18 category. In the second half of the season, I want to focus on the ICF World Championship in Abu Dhabi—being able to go would be a dream come true.

We hope to see you at the ICF Championships Abu Dhabi! How do you prepare both physically and mentally for competitions with the team?

I train on the water several times a week, working on technique, endurance, speed, and race simulations with my team, República SUP, in Alicante. I also complement my training with gym sessions or other aerobic sports like swimming or running. I eat well to recover properly and always have the energy I need. On the mental side, I believe preparation is just as important. I try to stay mentally sharp during races to respond well to unexpected situations. Staying focused, managing nerves, and keeping a positive mindset is just as crucial as physical fitness.

Thank you for sharing your training regime with us! Can you share any challenges you’ve faced in your SUP journey and how they shaped you as an athlete?

From the beginning, I knew that if I wanted to keep up, I had to fully commit, train consistently, and stay focused. Taking that first step wasn’t easy—balancing school with demanding training took a lot of dedication, time, and effort. Still, I decided to take training seriously, always give my best, and never lose sight of my dream. I’m very persistent, and that determination has been key to pushing through tough times, even when results didn’t meet expectations. Nowadays, there are many high-level competitions around the world, and I feel lucky to live in Spain, where I have access to internationally competitive events. In 2025, I’ve seen big improvements in my performance—thanks in part to my SIC RST board, which has given me the support and confidence I needed to keep growing.

Your determination will take you far and will help you grow as athlete that’s for sure. What specific skills or techniques are you focusing on improving with the SIC Maui team?

Right now, I’m very focused on improving my starts, buoy turns, and endurance in windy and wavy conditions. The SIC Maui RST board has been an incredible change for me. Its performance on the water allows me to push myself further and refine my movements with greater precision. I’m also working a lot on paddle efficiency so I can maintain consistent technique over long distances without losing pace. Thanks to my coach’s support and the feedback I get from races, I feel like I’m improving a lot. After every race, I always try to watch the replays to identify my mistakes and focus on correcting them.

That’s great! How do you plan to balance your training regimen with other commitments?

It’s a constant challenge, especially when trying to maintain a high level of athletic performance without neglecting other important areas of life, like academics or personal well-being. For me, the key lies in organization, realistic planning, and above all, daily discipline. Right now, I study in the mornings and train in the afternoons, so I plan my week in advance to make sure everything fits. This planning helps reduce stress and maintain a steady rhythm. I’m also very aware that rest, balanced nutrition, and mental health are essential parts of athletic performance. That’s why I try to maintain healthy habits like getting enough sleep, respecting my recovery times, and not overloading myself when I feel I need to rest. Lastly, I consider the support of my environment to be fundamental.

Great strategic planning! Sounds like you have a winning regimen! What do you hope to learn from your teammates and coaches this season?

This season I hope to continue growing both as an athlete and personally, and I know that training with my team, República SUP, will be key to that. At the same time, being part of the SIC Maui Spain community is giving me a new perspective. Getting to know international riders and seeing how they manage races helps me learn from them and improve.

In short, this season is about observing, listening, improving, and continuing to push myself—supported by two communities that drive me forward: my local team, República SUP, and the national network represented by SIC Maui.

How excited are you about the potential opportunities for collaboration and events within the SIC Maui community?

Having the chance to participate in events, meet other athletes, share experiences, learn from different backgrounds, and represent the brand in various activities is extremely motivating. What excites me the most is knowing that behind each product there’s a global network of athletes committed to SUP—people who share the same love for this sport. I’d also love to contribute content from my perspective as a young athlete, showing how I train, how I prepare, and how I live the sport through daily effort. I’m sure being part of SIC Maui will give me unique opportunities to grow as an athlete and as a person, and I hope to contribute with the same energy and passion I receive from this community.

Last question before we let you go today! What message do you have for aspiring SUP athletes looking to join a team like SIC Maui?

I would tell them to never stop dreaming, but to understand that dreams are built day by day—with hard work, consistency, and humility. It’s not just about winning races; it’s about growing as a person, learning from every experience, and loving the process. Sometimes progress is slow, and sometimes there are setbacks, but every step counts. And when you do things with passion and commitment, the results come. Being part of a team like SIC Maui is an incredible opportunity, and the most important thing is to be prepared not just physically, but also in mindset. If you believe in yourself, surround yourself with people who support you, and give your best—anything is possible.

Thank you for joining us today on TotalSUP Laura! We wish you nothing but the best of luck with the rest of your 2025 season!
