The Big Paddle Challenge – a sports experience that gets your heart racing, far from the noise of traffic yet right in the vibrant heart of Zurich, directly on the picturesque Lake Zurich. This eco-friendly and unique event gives everyone the chance to experience the excitement of water sports up close. Whether in a kayak, on a stand-up paddleboard, in a canoe, outrigger, prone board, or rowing boat – the 22-kilometer route to Richterswil is an adventure for a wide range of sports enthusiasts.
Big Paddle is more than just a challenge; it’s a journey where reaching the finish line is what counts – a moment of triumph where you feel the adrenaline and can be proud of yourself. Dive into an experience that connects, inspires, and pushes you beyond your limits.

Equipment drop-off & inspection: from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM
All equipment and boats will be stored overnight from Friday to Saturday at Strandbad Mythenquai to allow for an easier arrival on Saturday morning.

Who is the event suitable for?
For any water sports enthusiast who enjoys embarking on an adventure with like-minded individuals.
How do i transport my belongings?
On Saturday morning, you’ll receive a plastic bag from us with your start number, where you can store clothes or other items. Your bag will be transported by our shuttle to Richterswil and will be waiting for you upon arrival. To retrieve your bag, you’ll need your bib with the start number, which will be exchanged for your bag at the check-out desk.
How do i and my board get back to Zurich from Richterswil?
For equipment up to a maximum of 425 cm, we offer free return transport to the start. There, the equipment can be picked up again. We advise all participants to use public transportation. The start at Wollishofen station and the finish at Richterswil station are both a 5-minute walk away.
Are there parking spaces available?
Yes, at the start, we have two public parking lots: at Strandbad Mythenquai and at Landiwiese. Information can be found at Parking.ch. At the finish, we have the Horn parking lot.
What happens if i can’t complete the route?
If you don’t feel capable of completing the entire route, you have the option to exit at the Halbinsel Au. Equipment up to a maximum of 425 cm will be transported from there back to the finish by our shuttle. The Au train station is directly at the exit and is the perfect return transport for tired participants.
Can i bring my child?
Children up to a maximum of 30 kg can participate as passengers with the right equipment; however, we recommend this only for the most athletic among you. Adolescents aged 14 and over are allowed to participate in the event accompanied by their parents, provided they are physically capable of mastering the route. Please inquire with us in advance if you have any questions.
Does the event take place in all weather conditions?
No, for such an adventure, favorable weather conditions are essential. The event management will cancel the event 24 hours in advance in case of unfavorable weather conditions (wind, rain, thunderstorms, etc.).
