Brought to you by SUPdriven Expeditions, the outdoor company offering guided SUP tours through Sweden’s wilderness, and powered by Yster SUP, the premium Swedish SUP brand, an action-packed expedition designed as both a masterclass in SUP expeditions and an immersive adventure to build your skills and confidence, utilizing variable conditions with sometimes gusting winds and open water swells.
This is not for beginners but for those who are ready to push their limits and enhance their skills in a dynamic coastal environment.
Experience the best of a hidden part of Sweden, featuring crystal-clear water, smooth weather-worn rocks, iconic red houses, and a stunning island archipelago.
This is a unique expedition designed for people passionate about SUP expeditions. This participatory experience differs from a regular SUP trip, with participants taking an active role in planning the journey, setting routes based on conditions, and navigating along the way. Expect challenges that go beyond paddling alone. Responsibilities include reading weather patterns, adapting plans in real time, and leading individual legs of the expedition. This rugged adventure is ideal for those seeking a learning-focused journey with real-world application in demanding conditions. Participants leave with sharpened expedition skills and the confidence to undertake independent trips. Prior experience with at least a couple of multi-day expeditions is required.
Group sizes are kept exclusive and limited to eight participants to ensure optimal safety and learning outcomes. Collaboration begins before the expedition through interactive webinars and pre-trip planning sessions. Once gathered in southern Sweden, participants put their learning into practice in real expedition conditions.
Gear and Safety
Participants learn about essential expedition gear, including both personal items and shared equipment. Each participant is responsible for carrying, packing, and using their gear in real-time situations. Instruction covers proper use of safety equipment and the development of crucial safety skills to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.
Weather, Planning, and Navigation
This section focuses on understanding weather systems and their impact on route planning. Participants take turns leading the group, making real-time decisions based on environmental conditions, and adapting plans under pressure. Skills include adjusting well-prepared routes in response to changing weather or group well-being, as well as assessing environments for safe paddling.
Paddling Techniques
Participants refine paddling strokes for long-distance travel and gain experience with launching and landing in varied conditions. The curriculum includes an introduction to downwind paddling to improve efficiency with favorable winds. Open-water crossings, strong winds, and varied swells challenge endurance and technical ability.
Expedition Life
This component develops practical outdoor living skills. Participants learn to select and establish campsites based on conditions, prepare satisfying meals, manage campfires, and erect tarps for shelter. Foraging for local resources such as seaweed, mushrooms, blackberries, and edible flowers is also included. Expedition life demands resourcefulness, resilience, and adaptability in a wild setting.
At the conclusion of the expedition, participants are awarded a Certificate of Completion from the SUPdriven Archipelago SUP Expedition Masterclass.
This is not a regular pre-plotted or pre-defined SUP trip. It is not possible to specify exactly where the journey will lead or what experiences will unfold. The trip is a true SUP expedition, meaning routes may change to accommodate weather conditions or group needs. Participants must be adaptable and prepared for unknown challenges, as nature ultimately dictates the route.
Flexibility, teamwork, and mutual support are essential elements of the experience, all set within the stunning Blekinge archipelago in southern Sweden. The region features more than 50 nature reserves, making it ideal for water-based adventures.
Parts of the expedition follow the legendary ARK56 trail network, which winds through unspoiled natural landscapes along the 56th parallel. The area is defined by sheltered bays, untouched islands, and well-preserved historic sites, and has been designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for its unique natural and cultural heritage. Participants are immersed in a distinctly Swedish environment, with traditional red cottages nestled among mighty oak trees. The journey also includes exploration of ancient settlement ruins and sections of the military coastal defense line constructed in the late 1930s.
This expedition promises a rewarding adventure and a physically and mentally demanding journey that challenges participants while offering a strong sense of achievement. Anyone curious about the trip and seeking additional details before signing up is welcome to contact the SUPdriven founders and experience designers for more information.
On the first night, participants meet their SUPdriven guides and fellow paddlers at a bed and breakfast in Ronneby, located on the southeastern coast of Sweden. The evening includes an initial briefing, introductions, and confirmation of the launch site and SUP route for the following day.
During the following days at sea, overnight stays take place at campsites well known to the SUPdriven team, as well as newly discovered locations. The guides bring extensive local knowledge along with strong skills in coastal SUP paddling and expedition leadership. Personal and mental safety are a priority, and the itinerary is adapted to both group needs and natural conditions.
It is highly likely that one night will be spent on Tjärö, one of the largest islands in the heart of the Blekinge archipelago. The island is a protected nature reserve featuring rich vegetation and abundant birdlife. Visitors can enjoy warm sunlit rocks, deep crevices, beech forests, and open meadows. The island also offers warm showers and a waterfront restaurant serving pure, simple Swedish cuisine made with locally grown and sustainably sourced ingredients.
