Key facts about SUP KLUB and the Ljubljanica SUP Challenge
SUP KLUB was founded on August 31, 2011, making this our 14th season of operation.
The club is involved in various sports activities, including working with youth, offering yoga sessions, recreational paddling, post-work bonding sessions, SUP tours, and beginner courses.
We provide comprehensive support to our members throughout their journey, from their initial steps to advanced techniques, including equipment testing supported by detailed measurements and analyses. Training sessions are tailored for optimal performance.
The Ljubljanica SUP Challenge is a competition that began in 2014 as part of a white water kayak and canoe promotion event. It has been well-received in all six editions. The event takes place in the channel of the Slovenian capital, passing through the heart of the city, beneath promenades, and past all the main attractions. While the paddling itself offers scenic views, perfect for an urban scenic tour, racers won’t have much time to observe the sights during their approximately 12-minute challenge.
This year marks the 7th edition of the Ljubljanica SUP Challenge, featuring a 2.5 km long up-and-downstream course, with competitors always following the same route. For many years, the city’s best time was set (and subsequently improved) by Peter Bartl, remaining unchallenged until last year when Damodara Mokhniuk improved the time by nearly a minute.
Participants can park for free at the venue and enjoy a 20-minute walk along the waterside to reach the city.
Categories include:
Kids under 12 completing a short course of 500 meters with one buoy turn, accompanied by loud support from adults.
Fun category participants run a kilometer course with a buoy turn.
Elite, Race, and under 16 categories complete the full 2.2 km circle with two buoy turns.
The meeting point is a SUP KLUB from 4 pm onwards, with on-site registration available. At 4:30 pm, there will be a skippers’ meeting and departure to the starting point (different from the meeting point). The kids’ race starts at 5:15 pm, followed by all other categories at 5:20 pm.
Prize money, food, and a post-race party are included in the registration fee.
