Get ready for an unforgettable weekend of stand-up paddleboarding! The Big Dippa is Round 6 of the Black Project x GBSUP National Paddle Racing Series 2025, taking place on 23-24 August, at the stunning Whitley Bay Beach!

ABOUT THE EVENT

Venue

Whitley Bay will be the stunning backdrop for the sixth round of the 2025 Black Project GBSUP National Paddle Racing Series. Known for its beautiful coastline, Whitley Bay offers an ideal setting for an action-packed day of paddleboarding.

Event

Brought by Anna Little, Co-Founder of the Northern SUP Race Club, along with Michael Dobinson and Mark Ward of Northerly Swell Surfside Emporium, The Big Dippa is a FUN, ALL-INCLUSIVE event designed for everyone, from seasoned pros to complete beginners and families looking for a fantastic day out. Building on the incredible atmosphere of the Northern SUP race scene, the event promises a weekend full of excitement, community spirit, live music, tasty street food, and a refreshing bar to keep the good vibes flowing.

What to expect at The Big Dippa:

Thrilling races for all abilities:

  • Distance races: Challenge yourself on the approximately 5-6km main course, or opt for the shorter 2.5km Challenge Tour, perfect for those new to racing.
  • Technical races: Navigate buoys close to the shore in a dynamic 1.5km course with exciting beach runs.
  • Sprint races: Experience the adrenaline of 100m sprints with a beach run start.
  • Dedicated kids races: Junior paddlers (ages 8 and up) will have their own separate races (Distance, Technical, Sprints) designed to encourage participation and foster the next generation of SUP talent. All children must wear a buoyancy aid to race.

Fantastic prizes & cash for Winners! There will be some incredible prizes up for grabs, including cash prizes for the winners of the highly competitive 14ft hardboard category!

A true festival atmosphere! Beyond the racing, immerse yourself in the vibrant family atmosphere. Enjoy live music, indulge in a variety of street food options, and relax with a drink from the bar. It’s the perfect setting to cheer on your favourite paddlers and soak up the summer vibes.

The AquaPaddle Team will be on hand to promote their fabulous local hosts and showcase the brilliant entry point to SUP racing that AquaPaddle offers. If you’re curious about getting into paddleboarding or want to find a friendly local group, make sure to say hello!

Susanne Lier SUP Clinic (Sunday, 24 August): Join the renowned Susanne Lier for an exclusive SUP session. This is a rare chance to sharpen your technique and learn from one of the best in the sport. Spots are limited so book now!

Fleet Notes

  • The Starboard Airline Cup competes as part of the 14′ iSUP fleet.

  • 14′ Hardboard Age Groups and Juniors (U17 & U14) ages are classified by your age at the start of the year (01/01/2025)

  • Upon completing registration, you will receive your Event Pack, which includes details on the venue and facilities, provisional timings, and registration details for the media platforms we will use throughout the event.

  • Full event timings, start sequence, procedures, and further details on any event-specific requirements will be released closer to the event date in your Race and Activity pack.

Tickets and Registration

Your ticket gives you entry to the event for the specified time and activities. Upon registration, you must choose your fleet or activity and complete the relevant details. Once you have registered, you will receive your event pack, which includes details on the venue and facilities, provisional timings, and registration for the media platforms we will use throughout the event.
