Experience the Copenhagen Paddle Festival 2024 which is hosting the 2024 ISA SUP & Paddleboard World Championship and take part in the biggest OPEN race of the year, Copenhagen SUP. Let’s break some attendance records together!
Copenhagen SUP is a stand-up paddle race, for beginners and experienced paddlers! Join us on a journey through the charming canals of Copenhagen and try the World Championship long-distance route, all while experiencing the atmosphere of the Copenhagen Paddle Festival with party zones and the World Championship vibe from the ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championship 2024.
Copenhagen SUP takes place in the heart of Copenhagen, starting at the impressive Black Diamond. The route leads you through the beautiful canals of Christianshavn and past Christiansborg – the same route that the world elite will compete on later in the day. However, if this seems daunting, don’t worry, because at Copenhagen SUP, you can choose between three routes: “Easy Explore”, “Fun Explore” and “Pro Explore”.
“Easy Explore” is the shortest route at 2 kilometres, where you paddle around Frederiksholm Canal & Slotsholm Canal. “Fun Explore” is the shorter route of under 5 kilometres, where you paddle the World Championship route once and have time to enjoy the atmosphere of the Copenhagen Paddle Festival as you pass through the party zones and share moments with the community. If you want to challenge yourself and speed up on the World Championship route, you also have the option to paddle two laps on the “Pro Explore” route. Here, you can race against the clock or test your strength against your closest competitors on the SUP board. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the water, whether you’re on an inflatable SUP board or a hard board.

Race maps:
Both Fun Explore & Pro Explore paddle on the World Championship long-distance route, therefore, the harbour is also closed off during this period. Start and finish at Søren Kierkegaards Plads. It is a mass start for both routes, starting by paddling north towards Broensgadekøkken, then through the Christianshavn Canal towards Cirkelbroen (which is also included in the logo). From there, paddle through the start to the southern entrance to Frederiksholms Canal to follow the one-way system all the way around. When passing Kayak Bar, turn right towards the finish if you’re on the Fun Explore route, to paddle to the finish. If you’re on the Pro Explore route, turn left to repeat the route you’ve just paddled, then turn right at Kayak Bar when passing it for the second time, to paddle to the finish at Søren Kierkegaards Plads. Additionally, there will be various entertainment zones at Broensgadekøkken, Christianshavns Torv, and Højbro Plads, as well as other zones playing on the elements of sound and light.
Easy Explore:Â
In this route, you paddle around Frederiksholm Canal and Slotsholm Canal, and then you paddle to the finish at Søren Kierkegaards Plads.
Fun Explore:Â
In this route, you paddle a single lap on the World Championship long-distance route. Therefore, the first time you pass Kayak Bar, you paddle to the finish at Søren Kierkegaards Plads.
Pro Explore:Â
In this route, you paddle two laps on the World Championship long-distance route. Therefore, you paddle to the right to start a new lap the first time you pass Kayak Bar, and to the left the second time, to then paddle to the finish.
Event venue:
The venue is at Søren Kierkegaards Plads, next to The Black Diamond. The start and finish line will be located off this square. Additionally, there will be facilities for changing and board storage before and after the race for a limited period, along with a board drop-off zone at Slotsholmsgade. The road running through the venue will be closed off all Saturday, as will the harbour. Further information regarding board handling and transport to and from the venue will be provided, as some details are yet to be finalized.
Catering:
All participants will receive an energy bar from Rawbite, and there will be water stations around the square for refilling. There will also be an opportunity to purchase food from various food trucks on the square.
Registration of club, group, or company:
When you need to register a group for Copenhagen SUP, you can do this in various ways: Add more participants (under 20 participants)
For example, if you are a smaller club, family, or a smaller group, you can simply add extra participants.
When you create your own registration, you have the option to click “Add another participant” already on the first page of the registration system.
This will allow you to fill in all the information for the extra participants. You can add up to 25 people per order. In the end, you pay collectively. Group registration (More than 20 participants)
Individual payment in the group: If you are a larger group wanting to register together with individual payments, you should register individually and ensure that everyone specifies the same team name. Group Payment Solutions: Reach out to viktor@surfsup.dk if either of these options suits your needs:
Collective payment: If you wish to offer your colleagues, employees, team, or others to freely buy a start number at your expense, we can collect all registrations on an invoice for you with a fixed registration deadline.
Discount: If you wish to give your participants some form of discount on their registration, we can create a discount code for you to distribute. After the agreed registration deadline, we can send you a collective invoice for the discount you have given to your participants. The discount can be specified as a percentage per registration, a fixed price discount per registration, or a fixed price.
Your bill will be invoiced based on the number of registrations in relation to the chosen discount.
What is a beginner at SUP?
A beginner at SUP is someone who may have tried it a couple of times but doesn’t regularly practice. You don’t need to have perfect technique – what’s most important is your willingness to learn and have fun!
Are you unsure if you are good enough to participate?
Does the term SUP race intimidate you?
Can I participate on an inflatable board? YES!
What is the Minimum Requirement?
Our ‘Easy Explore’ route covers 2 km and is the most accessible of the three routes. You will paddle around Frederiksholm Canal & Slotsholm; it should take about 1 hour to complete at a relaxed pace. With an average speed of 2 km/h, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and get comfortable on your board. For comparison, most of us walk at a speed of 4-5 km/h. So if you’ve already tried SUP a few times and can paddle calmly around – and spend most of the time standing on the board (don’t worry – we all fall into the water sometimes) – then you’re ready for this route!
Still in doubt? No problem! If you wish to improve your skills before participating in Copenhagen SUP, you can sign up for our mailing list here. We’ll keep you updated with training offers and give you all the tips and tricks you need to get ready for the event. Sign up here – and take the first paddle stroke towards an unforgettable experience!
