The Starboard Sayulita SUP OPEN brings together the best athletes and young competitors in SUP Surf, Long Distance and Technical races, in Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico. It is a celebration of the surf and paddle board culture of Sayulita, Mexico; in honor of the Punta Sayulita Classic and the SUP ISA World Championships. An inclusive event where children, parents and weekend warriors can meet professionals, positively encourages our youth to pursue a professional career in the sport. We want to share our love for surf and paddle board culture with the world, starting from Sayulita, and we want you to be a part of it!

The picturesque surf town of Sayulita is set to host the annual Sayulita SUP Open, a premier international stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) event, on March 1 & 2, 2025. This two-day festival will showcase an exceptional lineup of SUP racing and SUP surfing talent from around the globe, along with community-
centered activities that highlight the charm and vibrancy of Sayulita.

The Starboard Sayulita SUP Open, presented by MexHome, with support from Pro Sayulita, the Turismo de Bahia de Banderas, and the Sayulita Surf Club. Proceeds from this event will go towards funding the garbage collection and recycling programs, and other local
community initiatives being driven by Pro Sayulita, a Sayulita based non-profit.

Last year the event was widely featured on ESPN’s The Ocho and was broadcast worldwide. A replay of the 30-minute show is featured on Pro Sayulita’s Youtube channel.

In the past we have had some of the biggest names in the sport:
· Lucia Coseleto (Argentina): 2-time ISA World SUP Surfing Champion.
· Connor Baxter (Hawaii): 2-time Pan American Games Gold Medalist.
· Max Torres (Puerto Rico): ISA World SUP Surfing Champion.
· Sofia Finer (Mexico): Local phenom who placed 4th in the Pan American Games SUP Race and was the only athlete to compete in both SUP divisions at the Games.

The 2025 event will feature exciting additions to the planning and management team. Anthony Vela, a Strategic Consultant to the International Surf Association (ISA) and a well-known industry veteran, will join as Race Director, while renowned announcer Dreu Murin returns for his third consecutive year as the official voice of the event. Adam Finer and the Surf Mexico team are bringing back the thrilling Starboard Starship Championship, promising dynamic participation for everyone and fun races for the whole family! Sayulita’s own Fernando Stalla—a local legend whose dedication to the sport and his hometown has been instrumental in elevating this world-class competition—adds even more depth to the team’s expertise. Together, they
bring decades of SUP experience, ensuring an unforgettable event.

Event Highlights:
· Starship Race: Teams of 7-10 paddlers race together on a 16-foot inflatable board, navigating waves in an exhilarating display of teamwork and strategy.
· Fun races: for the family and all age groups to get involved and get salty competing
for fun against everyone who wants to give it a try! We provide the gear!
· Beach Cleanup: Attendees can participate in giving back to the community and
preserving the beauty of Sayulita’s beaches.
· Fundraising for Sayulita: Proceeds from the event will support Pro Sayulita, a non-
profit organization dedicated to maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally
sustainable community for residents and visitors alike.
