The Madeira Island Sup Challenge (or MISC) is an annual SUP Race event which takes place on the island of MADEIRA, in the Atlantic Ocean. The island of Madeira is located about 900km from the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. It is an archipelago that has much to offer, both in terms of water and outdoor activities, as well as many other aspects, social, recreational, cultural, gastronomic, among others.
The first edition of MISC took place in 2017, in the city of Funchal, the island’s capital. Over the years, the event has grown and its competitive format (marathon) has remained to the liking of the participants. Being in open sea, MISC offers a lot of adrenaline and exceptional conditions. The air and water temperatures of around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, in a sea that is usually flat with little swells, allow for a diversified competition in terms of the physical demands.

Expect a long distance race with a course of around 13km for the more experienced SUP racers, and friendlier distances for young paddlers – beginners and amateurs.
The base of operations is set up in the city’s Nautical Centre, a place that is prepared to receive all participants and spectators. For this, a small event village is created, a pleasant area that adds a different colour to the area during the two days of the event.
