Leco Salazar Crowned First-Ever APP SUP Longboard World Champion

The first-ever SUP Longboard World Champion was crowned today at the 2022 Gran Canaria Pro Am. After a day of many upsets, huge performances and incredible longboarding at La Cicer, Brazilian SUP surf veteran Leco Salazar claimed the first-ever SUP longboard World Title, while French and Starboard Dream Team rider Benoit Carpentier took home the 2nd position. Leco Salazar’s title collected his world title ten years after he was crowned APP World Champion, marking a decade as one of the APP SUP Surf World Tour’s greatest competitors as well as proving the world he can still challenge the best international riders.

Day 2 of the 2022 Gran Canaria Pro Am also saw eight new APP World Tour faces qualify for the professional division after a competitive run of trials for both the women. Headed up by the trials’ winners, 2022 Junior World Kapono Fukuda and Marine Kerdreux, the eight hopefuls passed their initiation into the main event and now have the chance to prove themselves against the best in the world.
